News Items Of Oqttawka OQUAWKA - Mrs. George fic cles of Salem, and her mother, Mrs. Irwin Azdell of Monmouth, were recent visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Voorhees. Mrs. Eccles' son Gregg, who had been visiting in, the Voorhees home accompanied them to Mon mouth, where the Eccleses are visiting. Mr. and Mrs. George Brown Jr and son George of Monroe, Wis., spent the past week here with his aunts, Mrs. J. W. belabor Sr., and Mrs. William Tee and fami lies, and also with Mrs. Orval Detrick and family near Glad stone. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Barrett and children of Geneva, spent a week with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Chalmer Graham in Gladstone, and spent a day with her cousin, Mrs. J. W. Delabar Jr. and family, at the Delabar cabin. The Delabars also are from Geneva. Mr. and Mrs. Richard McClel land spent several days on a va> cation trip to Kentucky, Missis^ sippi and other points of interest in the South. Mrs. McClelland as employed in the Bank of Oquawka, and McClelland is a teacher at Union High School. In Kansas City Mr. and Mrs. Earle A. Kloster and son Dan and Mrs. Frank Shorts spent a weekend with Mrs. Shorts' sister, Mrs. Nellie Wilson, and Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Fadler in Kansas City. Mr. and Mrs Shorts' son Kenneth R. of Waukegan, spent a weekend with his father here. Mr. and Mrs. Seth Richmond and daughter Nancy and Mr. and Mrs. Raleigh P a r r i s h, were guests of Mrs. Richmond's brother and family, the Leslie Bielsers in Davenport. Kathleen Bielser ae companied them home for a visit. H. C. Ives suffered a heart attack at his home in Rozetta neighborhood Aug. 19 and was taken by ambulance to Monmouth Hospital for treatment. Miss Patty Ann Voorhees of Ohio, spent a few days with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George Voorhees. She had been visiting her father, Ed Voorhees and wife in Rock Island. Voorhees drove her to Oquawka and visited his parents. Michael Pruett of Abingdon, spent the past week with h i s grandmother, Mrs. Alice Pruett. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Pruett, and children came for him. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson and three children were recent visitors with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jess Parrish, en route from a vacation trip to Colorado. They reside in Little York. Cantaloupe Cup Roast Beef Hash with Steamed Fried Eggs Coi'nmeal Muffins Plum Jam Plum Jam 4 pounds fresh plums Vz cup water 1 box il s A ounces) powdered pectin 8 cups sugar Wash plums, remove pits and chop. Place in a deep 6 -quart kettle with water. Cover and simmer 5 minutes. Remove cover, add powdered pectin, and bring to a rapid boil, stirring rapidly all the while. Add sugar and bring to a full rolling boil, stirring constantly. Boil 1 minute. Remove from heat. Skim off foam and continue skimming for 5 minutes to cool slightly. Ladle into hot, sterilized jars. Seal at once. Makes about 12 one- half pint jars. haurans Return From Trip To Tulsa, Okla. LAURA—Mrs. Dorothy Kemper and Harley Reed returned home the past week from a 5-week visit with their daughter and sister Mrs. Merle Carter and family in Tulsa, Okla. The Rev. Mr. Williams and family were in town over the weekend. They stopped to pick up their furniture on their way to Cincinnati, Ohio where the Rev. Mr. Williams has won a scholarship. They had spent the summer in Tulsa, Okla. The Rev. Mr. Williams was pastor here at Methodist Church the past year. Mr. and Mrs. Cliff Ensley spent the weekend in Wisconsin.
