SUNDAY, SEPT! 27, 1981 F3 EDUCATION BRIEFS DEATHS Plaques will be awarded to the home best decorated with the theme, Country Western Hoedown, and to the business that has the best decoration for either the hoedown theme or one tied in with the nature of the business and the Mohawk tradition. Decorations should be displayed by Sept. 28. Judging will take place from Sept.

29 to Oct. 1. Persons living outside the city limits should contact JoAnn Ruestman to make sure their decorations are judged. Illinois Central College enrollment increased by almost 1,000 this year with 15,291 students compared to 14,252 last year. Part-time students' showed the biggest increase 9.3 percent.

Fourth through eighth grade students may enroll in a 10-week zoo-drawing class offered by Blooming-ton Parks and Recreation Department, 322 S. Main St. Students must register by Oct. 7 at the department office or call' 828-7361. A fee is required.

Myrtle Twomey PONTIAC (PNS) Myrtle E. Twomey, 91, of Clearwater, formerly of Pontiac, died Thursday, at 12:10 a.m. at Bruce Manor Nursing Home, Clearwater. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St.

Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. Manuel Loughran C.S.V, will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home.

The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. She was born June 24, 1890 in Pontiac, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Brewer. She married Frank E.

Twomey on March 28, 1910, in Pontiac. He died Sept. 9, 1971. Surviving are one son, Francis X. Twomey, Clearwater, one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.

Her brothers, sisters, and a grandson preceded her in death. She was educated in Pontiac schools. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Pontiac, and its Altar and Rosary Society, Pontiac. Dona Larsen DWIGHT (PNS) Dona B.

Larsen, 82, Dwight, died at 3:45 p.m. Friday at her home. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Von Qualen Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glen Anderson officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight and an hour before the service Monday at the funeral home. She was born Jan. 9, 1899, at Velpin, a daughter of James and Sarah Griffith Chamness. She CENTRAL ILLINOIS Edith Benson MELVIN (PNS) The funeral of Edith Benson, 88, who died Friday, -will be at 10:30 a.m.

Monday at Danforth-Sprau Funeral Home, Roberts, the Rev. James Litteral officiating. Burial will be in Melvin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5- to 7 tonight at the funeral home. She was born Sept.

27, 1892, in Roberts, a daughter of Casper and Ida Farrer Willy. She married Henry George Benson on March 9, 1922, in Kankakee. He died Jan. 5, 1945. She is survived by a sister, Mary Wright, Roberts.

She was preceded in death by three brothers. She was a member of Roberts Congregational Church, Sealock Club, Friendship Club and a 50-year member of Melvin Garden Club. George Nevius MCLEAN (PNS) George "Bee" Nevius, 59, died at 3:23 p.m. Saturday at his home. He was taken to McReynolds Funeral Home.

Former B-N man's son dies in Kansas Robert E. Jones, 35, Prairie Village, a son of Forrest T. and Dottie Jones, formerly of Blooming-ton, died at 6:15 a.m. today at Prairie Village. His funeral will be Monday in Prairie Village.

Colfax woman's mother dies Grayce Collins, 84, of Virginia, the mother of a Colfax woman, died at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday, at Virginia United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Walnut Ridge Cemetery, Virginia.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at Massie Funeral Home, Virginia. A daughter, Betty J. Lewis, Colfax, survives. Alan Beyler, Urbana, who has a learning disability, will speak at the Corn Belt Association for Children with Learning Disabilities at 7:30 Monday night at Washington School.

Beyler will talk about his experience and methods of coping with his disability. Parents and junior and senior high school students are invited. Refreshments will be served. Minonk-Dana-Rutland Boosters Club is sponsoring a decoration contest for all local homes and businesses during the high school homecoming week, Sept. 28-Oct.

3. ISU groups recognized for service Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity will share the 1980-81 Human Relations Award of the Illinois State University Human Relations Committee, committee chairman Charles Morris has announced. The award honors and recognizes exemplary service by individuals and organizations in improving human relations among campus groups and between the campus and the community. Alpha Phi Alpha, the host of the Dr. Martin Luther King brunch this year, was involved in the Sunnyside tutoring program, a fund drive with local Boy Scouts, the Atlanta fund drive, UNICEF, Red Cross blood drive and the Eva Jones political campaign.

The group was awarded the ISU Center for Ethnic Studies service award in 1980 and 1981, and was named the outstanding pan-hellenic organization in 1980. In the past year, Alpha Phi Omega has assisted Brokaw Hospital in its poison package program, raised money for the American Red Cross, taken Sunnyside Neighborhood Center children to an ISU basketball game, helped with the Red Cross blood drive, cleaned up Camp Heffernan at Lake Blooming-ton and aided Shamel Manor nursing home in Normal. The International House government at ISU and Delta Sigma Theta sorority received honorable mention for thtir work. FORECASTS WE Lloyd Heller DWIGHT Lloyd Heller, of Piano, father of a Dwight woman, died at 8 a.m. Saturday at his home.

He had been ill. His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Larsen Funeral Home. Piano. Burial will be in a Piano cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife, Ruth, Piano; and a daughter, Marianne Hall, Dwight. Edna Krahe LEROY (PNS) Graveside services for Edna Krahe, 88, Lacey formerly of LeRoy, who died July 15, will be at 10:30 a.m.

Monday at Oak Grove Cemetery, LeRoy, the Rev. David Hurley officiating. She was creamated. She was born April 6, 1893, in LeRoy, a daughter of John and Sarah Zellhoefer. She married Lester A.

Krahe. He died Dec. 13, 1971. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. She moved to Washington in 1974.

She was a University of Illinois graduate and received a master's degree from Columbia University, New York. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa National Sorority and Richmond Hills, N.Y., Congregational Union Church. Henry Siems MELVIN (PNS) Henry B. Siems, 91, died at 3 a.m. Saturday at Gibson Manor, Gibson City.

His funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Melvin United Methodist Church, the Rev. E. J. Lang, officiating.

Burial will be in Melvin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Danforth-Sprau Funeral Home and an hour before the funeral at the church. He was born April 14, 1890, in Westerstede, Germany, a son of Bernard and Marie Siems. He married Stella Schafer on June 25, 1924, in Melvin.

She survives. i Also are a daughter, Suzanne Muehlenpfort, Melvin; two sons, Norman, Melvin, and John, Cocoa, a sister, Hennie Hupens, Bronaugh, five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister. He was a member of Melvin United Methodist Church, American Legion and was a World War I veteran. Memorials may be made to the church.

Viola Clay TREMONT (PNS) Viola S. Indiana man found dead near Roanoke ROANOKE A 29-year-old construction worker from Indiana was found dead in the back of a semitrailer truck Saturday morning, where he apparently went to sleep Friday night. Richard W. Barger, Upland, was found at 8:20 a.m. Saturday near 108 W.

Mill St. Woodford County Coroner Robert Mason said Barger apparently climbed in the truck to go to sleep. He said it appears Barger got cold and turned a welder motor on for warmth. Death was due to carbon monoxide poisoning, Mason said. An autopsy was performed and an inquest will be scheduled.

Mr. Barger's funeral and burial will be in Upland. Remmert Funeral Home, Roanoke, was in charge of local arrangements. He was employed by Leary Construction Co. Greenfield, Ind.

The firm is painting the Roanoke water tower. Sunday, Sept. 27, 1981 Hazel Irwin CHATSWORTH (PNS) Hazel Irwin, 92, of Helen Lewis Smith Pavilion, Fairbury, formerly of Chatsworth, died at 7:43 a.m. Saturday at the pavilion. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Monday at Culkin Memorial Home, the Rev. Charles Hale officiating. Burial will be in Cropsey Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the memorial home. She was born Nov.

3, 1888, Fair-bury, the daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Hieronvmus Westervelt. She married Will Irwin on March 29, 1911 at Cropsey. He died March 7, 1962. Surviving are three sons, Donald, Joliet; and Milford and Dale, both of Chatsworth; a daughter, Dora Booker, Sheridan, twelve grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

She was a member of Fairbury Hospital Auxiliary, United Methodist Women and Germanville Community Club. She was a past member of the Belle Prairie Home Bureau and Cheerful Givers. She attended the United Methodist Church at Chatsworth. Memorials may be made to the church building fund. Ruth Swanson EL PASO (PNS) Ruth Swanson, 85, formerly of Ottumwa, Iowa, died at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday at the home of her son, Charles R. Swanson. 51 N. Adams El Paso, where she had resided several months. She will be cremated.

Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso, is in charge of arrangements. She was born March 28, 1896, at Havelock, Iowa, a daughter of i 1 a iailltn cliiu mind mci t-uiui villain. She married Charles G. Swanson on April 26. 1922, at Sac City, Iowa.

He died May 17, 1968. Surviving are two daughters, Estella lletzler, Ottumwa, Iowa; and Joanna Koelling, Nevada, Iowa; two sisters, Hazel Keerbs, Havelock, Iowa; and Dorothy Stover, Storm Lake, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Warren Studied at 8:45 a m. Saturday at St. James Hospital, Pontiac. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.

He was born June 20, 1920, in Rooks Creek Township, the son of Charles and Elsie E. Dcedrieh Weber He married Mildred L. Skaggs on June 23, 1953. in Pocohan-tas. Ark.

She survives. Also surviving are four daughters. Suzanne Sullivan, Springfield; Patricia Hill, Bloomington, Cynthia, Chenoa, and Donna. Wheaton; two sons, Gregory. Pontiac, and Stacey.

at home, a stepson, Jack Skafigs, Chenoa, a brother, Richard, Pontiac; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. He lived in Chenoa since 1958 and was a linotype operator for City National Printing Pontiac. He was a member of Rooks Creek United Methodist Church and Chenoa American legion. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

died at 7.45 a Saturday at Brokaw Hospital. He married Mildred Kinzinger Dec. 20, 1935. at Carloc k. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Glen, Danvers, and Raymond, Towanda; four brothers, Clifton, Hudson, Elmer, Stratford.

Wis Sammle, Carlock; and William. Blomington; four sisters. Maxie Redfarln, Carlock; Laura Smith. Ellsworth, Florence Bunn, Normal, and Nora Smith, Hudson; and five grandc hldren. A son, a granddaughter and a brother preceded him in death.

She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Memorials may be made to the church. Dale Fry ARROWSMITH Dale Fry, 60, Kankakee, an Arrowsmith native and a self-employed salesman, died Friday at his home following an extended illness. His funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Tuesday at St. Teresa Church, Kankakee. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Kankakee. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Clancy Funeral Home, Kankakee.

He was born Sept. 6, 1921, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest T. Fry.

He married Dorothy M. Brucher. She preceded him in death. He married Ellen Tuttle. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Debbie Tomblin, Boulder, Denise Westfall, Bourbon-nais; and Dianne Fry, Kankakee; three sons, Randy, Ronald and Richard, all of Dallas, Texas; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Gerald Walsh, Charleston Heights, and Lorelie Keck. Kankakee; two stepsons, Edgar Keck, Lockport, Texas; and George Keck, Shannon; six sisters, Dorothy Lype and Donna Julian. Bloomington; Mildred Thompson, Decatur; Beulah Huilta, Arrowsmith; and Pauline Philips and Ester Scott, Phoenix. two brothers, Kenneth Fry, Richardson, Texas; and Clayton Fry, La Canada, and six grandchildren.

She was born July 18, 1910, in IiMont. Kansas, a daughter of John and Elizabeth Brenkman Storrer. She married John Clav in Indianapolis, on Oct. 24, 1942. He survives.

A brother, Leslie Storrer, Peoria, also survives. She was prec eded in death by one sister. Mrs. Clay was retired after 31 years as a school teacher. She taught in the Tremont area and in the Napervillc school system.

A graduate of Northern Illinois University, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, Rugby Garden Club, Needle Craft Guild and was the leader of Circle Number Three.
