The Sans Ceremonie dancing club will bold Us regular assembly at the home of the Misses Ward, on East Washington street, this evening. Mr. Barrows is putting a new set of shelving in his pawn shop. Verily, hard times affects him as well as other people, but in the opposite way. There will be an entirely new programme this evening at the "Odeon," the full company appearing in an attractive olio of specialties.

The "varieties" theater is drawing full houses at every entertainment. As will be seen in this' issue, the firm of Aldrich Bros. Co. have sold the retail part of their business, and will hereafter devote their energies exclusively to the wholesale grocery business. From a small beginning they have Increased their wholesale trade until it now requires their entire time, and hereafier the two firms, though for the present in one building, will do business separate, as though a thousand miles apart.

A packiiye of $1,000 in $50 greenbacks was received yesierday by the National Bank, which is quite a tragic curiosity for its con nectioti with the great Ashtabula disaster. It was a part of the contents of the United Stales Express safe which went down iu the wreck and ruin of last Friday night. The notes are badly soiled and dampened from tbeir submersion in the Ashtabula river, but are not illegible and have lost no part of their value. The attorneys for Major Meredith applied on Tuesday to the Supreme Court at SDr nehe for a writ ot error ana superseaeas. and also for an order that in the second trial for which thev ask, Meredith be tried as poor person.

When the party arrived at their destination lale iu the fall of IMS, they had about twenty-live pounds of Hour and some alt, as their stork of provisions for the win ler. During the winter the Indians stole their horses.

DLE, January 3, 1677. Editob Pahtagrafh Mr. Wils seems lo be furious in his last be snaps and barks at us like a little rat terrier. He tries to sneer at us be cause he says it took us two weeks to write our answer. If he would have taken taken two weeks to write his reply it would have contained less blus ter and more Drains.

Mr. Wilson shows some very bad blond in his last. We suppose ho feels bad because we eaid he stood hluli as a citizen aim gentleman we take It all back. We believe alter ailing his last, we are fully justified In saylnir wr re. entirely mistaken In Edward.

We think Mr. Wilson got Into the wrong pew when he start ed out as a rarmer ne ouiriii lo set up snop as a third-class pettifogger, and hnng out the slgu, "more gas than biKlis." We hope he is out of danser since he blowed on steam. His lust was some like the meteor that passed over us lately made something of a racket but we have not beard of anybody being Itutt. Mr Wiison, after exhausting all the slang he had at his command in abusing the colored boy, turns square round and say( be was hot so much to blame after all. He says he "expressed regret and einipatliy for the boy." Consistency I thou art indeed a jewel.

Mr. Wilson charges us with a want ot' sympathy for the little boy he sas he never made any inquiry aft the little boy that we niHiiif sttd a cold indifference. Mr. Wilon seem, to have a very poor memory. In order to refresh his memory, I will tell dim v.

here and when I did make inquiry about the little boy. Four das after the ac- ident I met Mr. Wilson In BliHimington. at Jones i Burke's shoeing establishment, and tea'le particular iuquity after the I' jored boy and live day alter this I sent my little boy to Mr. Wilson's 'to see and ask about the boy.

So Mr. Wilson's charge that I had no sympathy for his boy tails to tbe ground. We are orry" for the little boy sorry he had to suffer so much, and that be bss been deprived of the bene-fltsot the winter school. Mr. Wilson says this affair Is none of our bu Iness.

We do not intend to make It our business, anv further than to protect my si If auainst Mr. Wilson's slang and misrepresentation. We think Edward bad better write about some subject In wltich there is some, thing to "kick against." It would be refreshing to the old citizens II lie would give us an essay on "Fox," and it might answer the jailers of the Pasj-i aobapb to lollow it up on "tow Yours. JoHBLrr.
