Brewer, whose real name la ston, la Normal student COUNTY BARBECUE, FUNK'S GROVE, OCT. 20 Great Republican Gathering Planned By Citizens of Mt. Hope and Funk's Grove Townships to Be Climax of the Local Campaign. Ten Beeves to Be Served to the Crowds, With Plenty of Other Provender- Notables to Speak and a Round-Up of Illinois Republicans Promised. The big and spectacular event of the political campaign in McLean county, and the climax of the autumn activities, so far as the republican side of the house is concerned, it is to be a barbecue, to be held at Funk's Grove on Friday, October 20.

The plans for the affair are yet in the embryo stage, but the projectors of the barbecue are men of large ideas, and they will not do the thing by halves. barbecue of the coming October 20 will be a worthy successor for a similiar event held in Funk's Grove sixteen years ago, which formed the climax of the campaign of 1900. The Originators. The conception of the barbecue can be credited to some of the large hearted and staunch republicans of Mt. Hope and Funk's Grove townships.

John C. Stubblefield is the prime mover in it up to date, and he has the enthusiastic backing of a lot of his republican neighbors. Committees are Planned. The initial meeting was held on Saturday night, at which some of the first committees were outlined. These com- mittees will be enlarged and others appointed as the affair develops.

Mr. Stubblefield was made general chairman, H. G. Walter, secretary, and William Ewing treasurer. committee on location of the exact spot for the barbecue was named, consisting of Funk, H.

M. Palmer and Joseph Crain. There will also be committees on speakers, on solicitation and finance and other features. On a Gigantic Scale. The men behind the affair are planning things on an immense scale.

For instance, they will have at least ten beeves killed and dressed for the furnishing of the main article of the barbecue dinner. Then there will be thousands of loaves of bread, hundreds of dozens of pickles, and other articles to complete the menu. Then, also there will be an ample supply of without which no real barbecue could be complete. Burgoo is a sort of soup prepared in a peculiar way from the barbecued meat. The Political End of It.

But the serving of a great barbecue dinner will be only an incident of A day that will doubtless be notable in the local history of the present campaign. The 'real purpose of the day will be the feast of reason provided by string of campaign orators who will present issues of the day from the republican viewpoint. Already preparations are made for securing a list of notables in both state and natonal affairs to speak in both the morning and the afternoon. Probably five hours of solid oratory will be provided by at least that number of speakers. Col.

Lowden Expected. One of the attractions of the day is expected to be the presence of Col. Frank 0. Lowden, republican candidate for governor. He is making tour of the state, and has promised to visit McLean county on any day the local committee desires.

They him to come for the big barbecue, whether or not he makes any other visit to this county during the paign. With Col. Lowden will come practically all the other republican candidates for state offices. For National Figure. Chairman Lester Martin of the county central committee and Congressman John A.

Sterling will gO to Chicago Thursday, where they will make arrangements with national headquarters for the sending of one or more men of the highest reputation in the nation A8 one of the orators for barbecue day. Col. Roosevelt Senator Faihu Root. Senator Borah or some other republican of equal prominence will be sought and will doubtless be secured. Will Cost Some Money, The providing of a free barbecue dinner for the large crowd expected on this considerable Anancial undertaking.

It is estimated that the cost $1,200 to $1,500, but no charge will be made to the people participating. The funds for the feed will be provided by the patriotic republicans of the county, and solicitation of funds for this pose will be begun at once. Expect 25,000 People. With the facilities for travel of the present day, with the automobiles, and all that, it will be no surprise if the crowd numbers upward of 25,000, providing the weather la good. This intended to be a general Central 1111- nots affair, and is not confined to Me.

Lean county, It is thot that people will be flocking here from all the tral portion of the state. To Tour the Country. The executive committee of the Lean county Republican central mittee also formulated plans for three days' tour of the county when all of the towna will be visited and there will be speaking and other interestIng features, The trip will be made October 17, 18 and 19. The schedule will be announced later. The cue above mentioned in detail will conclude the itinerary on October 20.
