Florida Girl Starts First Full European Tennis Tour PARIS (UPI) - Her tennis Is still as cool as ever and her supply of chewing gum appar- e n 11 y inexhaustible, Chris Evert begins her first French Open championships today. The 19-year-old Floridian • Muffltrs • Toil Pipti • Exhaust System FARTS f OR AU CARS • Air- Conditioner Parts • Freon Kits NELSON Auto Parts 1B50 N. Henderson Oaletburg _ from Fort Lauderdale will begin her first full European tour on a dusty outside court in a first-round singled match against unranked Australian Marilyn Tesch. Miss Evert, who already knows the thrills—and disappointments—of Wimbledon from last> year, this year comes to Europe with a different and slightly awkward image. The days when she won 26 straight matches as "a brilliant youngster" are behind her, and ahead are the pressures of the biggest titles-Paris, Wimbledon and Forest Hills. She is no longer an exciting discovery and she is not yet a true champion. Miss Evert has been seeded second in the $5,500 women's singles and if the selectors are right, she will meet Australia's Margaret Court or arch-rival Evonne Goolagong in the final. Clay courts, she said, were her favorite surface and the slow red clay of Roland Garros stadium may Ibe made for her precision game. Rain sharply curtailed the opening day of the tournament Wednesday but didn't prevent Mrs. Court from getting off to a good start for her third singles title here. Once again the top- ranked women's player has a chance of completing the "grand slam" of Australian, French, Wimbledon and Forest Hills titles. There is no Bobby Riggs to stop her in this quest. Thursday, May.,24, ,1973 f$ Final Dress Rehearsal Ii Scheduled at Indianapolis INDIANAPOLIS (UPI) The final dress rehearsal for Monday's Indianapolis 500-mile auto race was scheduled today with the traditional oairburetion tests at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. This was the only chance this week for the drivers and crews to test their finely tuned, turbo- charged engines under race-day conditions. The great majority of the 33 starters were expected to participate in the three-hour practice, running with full fuel loads and testing their chassis set-ups. The final practice, under the watchful eyes of Chief Steward Harland Fengler and his corps of officials from the United States Auto Club, was to be followed by pit rehearsals for two more hours—but with engines silent. This session consisted mostly of pit strategy and tire changing. Then the famed 2 l Amile oval will be closed until Monday's race.
