Building and Remodeling Activities Surge Here New Homes Goins: Up and Many Being: Repaired and Improved; This Community Taking: Active Part in National Reconstruction. Reconstruction, the watchword of today, Is becoming a reality these days in Parsons and the wide trade territory that surrounds this city. Snapping out of a lethargy that amounted to virtual stagnation a year ago, the business of improving, rebuilding and new construction is showing real aigns of life.

A survey of this community, made by The Sun, reveals a surprisingly large number of property improvement projects of all kinds. Homes that have been neglected during the depression at last are getting attention and good building sites are getting those new homes that have been planned and hoped for. At least six or olsht bow homo have boon built in or near Par-ona In tho laat faw month, or aro la tha procaaa of eonatrurtlon. Such a aituatloB waa onboard of a year or two aso. I.ln A. Wright and family of Oswego reside in a nice home which recently was remodeled. Wright purchased the Frank Farris property at the corner of Sixth and Iowa streets and put a group of carpenters to work remodeling it into a modem home. The rear portion of the house was tom down and a new room was built with a room on the second floor. A bathroom was added and the kitchen enlarged and new fixtures were added.

The house wns competely re plastered, painted and papered and is now a very comfortable home. This plrtura ahows the stream going on almost straight south. Before the project was started the creek made a sharp bend just below the point of land on whlrli several men aro shown alnndtng In the photograph. It turned to tho right, going 100 foot nr more 2120 Main Phono aBi through the one big, attractive park. Tha sloping, termed banks of the creek will form a beauty pot In tha park.

gome tree along tha creek banka had to be sacrificed In doing thl work, but the city official saved every tree they could. Not only la the creek Itself made more attrartive, hut other parts of Marvel park hare been Improved greatly by filling in with earth taken from the creek bed. Moat of tha spare In the park used aa fairground, extending north from tha grandstand, has been filled with a foot or mors of earth and a considerably deeper fill haa been placed just inalde tha hoard fence along East Main, As for flood control, this project la tha first step In a program which tha city hope to carry out In the future. If (hi could be done on the creek from tha north pert nf tha rlly to the Frisco tracks south nf the rily there would he no more disast rous floods In Tariona. That would take many thousands of dollars, of course, but It may be done some tlmo.

At any rato, the present project, between Main street und (Hen drive, which leads from Forest park Into Marvel park arms a low water bridge, no doubt will do much to nllevlulo congested conditions when (lie usually quiet little stream gora on a rampage. When the project la rnmpleled within the nest few weeks a tntnl nf 61,000 cubic yards of earth will have been moved. And when you mnva llmt much dirt you aro hound to liavo some effect on tha stream. Aa Hie picture shown, Ilia appearance nf l.ahetlo creek haa been changed completely. Before It waa a narrow, Inrturoiia stream flogged with dirt, rocks and trees.

Now It Is murh wider, obstructions liavo hern removed, bnnks built higher and terraced and a.new course actually dug for part of this distance. Have you heard about the February Furniture Sale Bargains at Whites? This photograph, taken saveral day ago by tha Morris Electric studio from tho Main street bridge, shows what is being dona on tho Labette creek flood control project at tha east edge of the city. Tho camera was pointed south when tht plrtura was takvn. Only a few men were working at tha time. Usually bank are swarming with men.

This Is one of tha most important Improvements, from a practical civic viewpoint, mads In Parsons In years. It remains to he seen Just how much tha removal of thousands of ruble yards of esrth from the creek bed and banks will allevlsta flood conditions at that point on La-hetto creek, hut It la believed that It will go a long way toward preventing bad Inundations caused by heavy rains. There la no doubt about what the project la doing for the city's park system. As this particular project nears completion It Is evident that Marvel park la being made much more attractive becanse of It and of primary Importance Is tha fart that thl Improvement pave the way for the connecting nf Marvel and Forest parks, a dream that ha been In the minds of civic leaders for your.
