She plans to attend Flamingo Beauty College, Peoria, beginning this summer. Dear Penny, I have read in your column letters from parents who do not want sex education taught in our schools. I take the opposite stand. I am the mother of three children; two boys and a girl. There are few parents who are able to discuss sex with : their children. Even if they are able to discuss it, children are often too embarrassed to ask questions of their own parents. They find teachers are not so personally involved, so they are able to be more open in asking questions. If parents could see the patients in mental hospitals who are there because they were not aware of the effects of .syphilis or were too embarrassed to seek help, they would understand why we need better sex education. A Parent Dear Parent, There are many reasons why a good sex education class can be a real asset in a community. Dear Penny, I'd like some advice about my son and daughter-in-law. They never want to be included in our family. They were in town yesterday, and I called and asked if they would like to go out last night for supper. She gave me quite a few excuses, but they wouldn't go. They can't do enough for her mother. She is a widow, also. If my son had joined our supper, it would have made my day complete. There's a lot of jealousy in our family. A Disturbed Mother Dear Disturbed, It is very possible that your son and daughter-in-law had made plans before you called and that their excuses were legitimate. Why don't you try calling in advance and asking them to set a time they will be free to join you for dinner? Dear Penny, Who would steal from a child? It must be someone sick, with a heart of stone and definitely not a parent. My husband is a 4 -H club leader, and each month 25 members come to our home and enthusiastically tell of their projects. Two boys, including our 12-year-old son, have rabbits for a project. They saved money, bought the rabbits when they were small and have a record book showing everything they spend. Our son saves his money and men rides his bike across town to buy equipment or something for the hutch. Last Friday he had saved enough to buy paint for the hutch. I'll never forget his disappointment when he awakened Saturday morning eager to paint, and I had to tell him someone had stolen all his rabbits and equipment during the night. He immediately checked with his friend sharing the project and discovered that the same thing had happened to him. Since the first shock, his only concern has been that the person who has his rabbits won't know how to care for them, especially the one that was expecting babies in a week. I'm sure that whoever did this doesn't have the mentality to read, but if they knew the disappointment of two little boys they couldn't be very proud of themselves. Each night our son leaves the hutch door open just thinking someone will return his rabbits. The day before this happened, his new jacket was stolen from his locker at school. What kind of parents will allow their child to wear a stolen jacket? Or what kind of adult will steal from a child? Bewildered Dear Bewildered, I just hope some parent might start asking questions about Johnny's new pets. If someone would like an assist in getting the rabbits back home, I'll keep your phone number on file. Dear Penny, I have a neighbor who is always gossiping. Eyery morning she comes over for coffee, and she always has something to tell about who is running around with who in the neighborhood or who is about to get fired for pilfering. I just happened to mention one of these tales to another neighbor, and she told me in no uncertain terms that she didn't want to hear that kind of rubbish because everyone in the neighborhood knew that mis other neighbor and I got together every day and cut everybody up and told lies. That's an awful thing to say. I can't help it this woman talks a lot. Should I make her an enemy and stop letting her come to my bouse just to please everyone else? No Gossip Dear No, When you listen to neighborhood gossip every day and just happen to mention it to another neighbor, you're a gossip . . . awful or not. Thinking of you . . .
