training in gymnastics and jazz dancing During the talent competition she will perform a gymnastics floor exercise Rocha a business administration major specializing in accounting at Stanislaus State commented "Basically I like to meet people I live in a small town and the pageant will help me broaden the spectrum or horizon of my life By participating I hope to continue my education socially and Modesto Claudia Louise Rocha 19 Newman Josephine Dee Cipponen 18 Hughson Tamara Dee Ribeiro 18 Modesto Tamara Lynn Stevenson 17 Modesto Sandra Arlene West 18 Modesto and Margaret Elizabeth Weber 19 Modesto They will be judged in evening gowns swimsuits private interviews and talent competition as are the contestants in the Miss America pageant The winner will not only wear a crown hut also will receive a $1000 college scholarship plus hundreds of dollars worth of gift certificates jewelry and merchandise orders from area businesses a competition gown swimsuit and expense-free trip to Santa Cruz for the Miss California contest College scholarships of $400 and $300 will go to the first and second runners-up with the other contestants each receiving $50 Michael Johnson a local entertainer for foreign language and a scholarship from the Persephone Guild of Ceres during her high school senior year She also will sing in the pageant Cipponen was editor of the Hughson High School paper during her senior year winning the Press Club award for outstanding journalism and was listed in Who Among American High School Students" Currently she is an English major at Stanislaus State During
