A chili supper from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, 1006 E. Lincoln will be the latest in a series of fund-raising events by the Combined Veterans OrFund-raiser ganization of McLean County. Browne, 310 Florence Normal, received the outstanding citizen award Wednesday night at the Normal Chamber of Commerce's 31st annual dinner at Illinois State University. The Brownes were the first couple ever to receive the award, which usually is given to a single recipient for service to the town and the citizens of Normal." Mrs. Browne, a teacher at Eugene Field School in Normal and at Metcalf School at Illinois State University, helped organize the McLean County Meals on Wheels program; was the first chairman of the Normal Human Relations Commission: chairman of Normal's Centennial Pageant Committee; and co-chairman of the town's recreation board.

Browne, a sociology teacher at ISU for more than 25 years, was the first ecutive director of the Illinois Board of Higher Education; served as educational adviser to the Illinois State Board of Junior College, and in 1965 was named Laureate of the Lincoln Academy of Illinois in the field of education. Jim Bain, former Olympic basketball official and vice president of the Mercantile Mortgage Decatur, gave the address. District judge Wednesday ruled the Chicago Board of Education's two-year-old teacher transfer plan unconsitutional on grounds of racial discrimination. Judge John Powers Crowley held that provisions of the plan exempting teachers over age 55 from being transferred deny other teachers equal rights of protection under the law. The board, under federal pressure, instituted the plan in a move to establish a racial balance of 35 to 60 percent minority group teachers in each of the city's schools. Nov. 9, 1978 Pantagraph Central Illinois Deaths Hazel Brennemann HOPEDALE (PNS)-The funeral of Hazel L. Brennemann, 85, a resident of the Hopedale area, who died Wednesday at Hopedale, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hopedale United Methodist Church. The Rev.

Walter Scott will officiate. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens, Pekin. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Davis Mortuary, Hopedale. She was born Oct.

29, 1893, in Hopedale, a daughter of T.N. and Liona Smith Sands. She married Edgar Brennemann on Jan. 1, 1915, at Hopedale. He died in June 1967.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frederick Waldmier, 1909 Castle Bloomington; a son, Herbert Pekin; and a grandchild. Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. She was a member of the Hopedale United Methodist Church and lived the last five years at Hopedale Nursing Home. Memorials may be made to the church.

Morris Stewart MORTON (PNS)-Funeral services for Morris Stewart, 62, of 405 Glen who died Tuesday at p.m. Friday at Perry Memorial Home, Morton. The Rev. Pat Flaherty will officiate. Burial will be in Hillerest Memory Gardens near Morton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m. by the Joseph Robbins Lodge No. 930 AF AM.

He was born Nov. 24, 1915, in Williamson County, a son of John and Bettie Fiveash Stewart. He married Anna Folkers June 29, 1947, in Peoria. She survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Jean Bennett, Orlando, Fla.

A son, two brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Mr. Stewart worked at Keystone Steel and Wire for 39 years. He retired in 1 1976. He was a member of the Morton United Methodist Church, the Joseph Robbins Masonic Lodge No.

930 of Peoria, the Keystone Good Fellows Club and was an army veteran of World War II. Memorials may be made to the Cornith Cemetery Association. Lottie Hardin PONTIAC (PNS)-The funeral of Lottie Hardin, 92, of Humiston Haven Nursing Home, who died at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the nursing home, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Community Lutheran Church, Cornell.

The Rev. William Shermer will officiate. Burial will be in Cornell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, Pontiac, is in charge of arrangements. She was born March 29, 1886, near Cornell, a daughter of Daniel and Alverda Chaffin Iverson. She married Fred Patterson on March 29, 1913, at Cornell. He died in 1922.

She married John Hardin in 1925. He died in 1944. Surviving are three daughters, Ruth Patridge, Streator; Irma Delheimer, Cornell; and Mary Peterson, Pontiac; three sons, Kenneth Patterson, Streator; John Hardin Manville; and Larry Hardin, Arlington, W.V.; two brothers, Harlow Iverson, Streator, and. Reno Iverson, Long Point; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two greatgreat-grandchildren. A son and eight brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Cornell Baptist Church, the Cornell American Legion auxiliary and the Ladies Missionary Society of the church. Memorials may be made to the missionary society. Ellis, 86, died at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. He was taken to Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta. Ethel Larsen CHENOA (PNS) -Ethel Larsen, 90, of Pontiac and formerly of Chenoa, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Livingston Manor, Pontiac, where she had resided several years.

She was taken to Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa. Paul Garber ROANOKE (PNS)-Paul Garber, 49, was found dead at his home at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday. He had been under a doctor's care. He was taken to Remmert Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. He was born Dec. 23, 1906, at Bloomington, a son of John M.

and Louise Shellman Friedrich. He married Marie Hobelsberger Feb. 14, 1931, at Bloomington. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Paul J.

Friedrich, rural Heyworth; two daugh-2 ters, Mary T. Gastelum, 706 Chester Drive, Normal, and Helen McCalla, 13 Northerest Court, Bloomington; two sisters. Nell Radka, Ladysmith, and Mary Quinn, Creve Coeur; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One sister and three brothers preceded him in death. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Farm Bureau.

He was a retired farmer, living 47 years in the Bloomington and Heyworth areas. Mary Cross Mary Cross CLINTON (PNS)-Mary E. Cross, 83, of 216 1 E. Adams St. died at 3:45 p.m.

Wednesday at Springfield Memorial Medical Center. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, the Rev. Robert Creager officiating.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pullen-Boos Funeral Chapel. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. She was born Dec.

1, 1894, in Bement, a daughter of Thomas and Alice Roesch Reddington. Surviving are two daughters, Marjorie Manners, Clinton, and Jacklyn Gardner, LeRoy; three brothers, Thomas, Sun City, and Milzer and Kenneth, both of Clinton; two sisters, Anna Alsup and Loretta Reddington, both of Clinton; three grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded her in death. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society.

Memorials may be made to Dr. John Warner Hospital. James Cavanaugh PONTIAC (PNS) funeral of James W. Cavanaugh, 68, of Neosho, who died at 8:45 p.m. Monday at Sale Memorial Hospital, Neosho, will be at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in South Side Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. He was born July 15, 1910, in Streator. He married Edythe Bromley, formerly of Pontiac.

She survives. Also surviving are two sons, James Jr. and Dr. Jerald, both of Neosho, and a grandson. Mr.

Cavanaugh retired in 1973 after managing a meat department of El Rancho Foods in Yuma, Ariz. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Elks Lodge. Robert Foulk STANFORD (PNS)-Robert P. Foulk, 76, died at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mennonite Hospital, Bloomington.

He was taken to McReynolds Funeral Home. Teens hurt when car hits tree Three Bloomington-Normal residents were injured Wednesday night when their car struck a tree west of Pipeline Road near Lake Bloomington. Police said the 7:10 p.m. accident occurred on a road a quarter mile west of Pipeline Road. Timothy Fletcher, 19, of 117 W.

Jefferson St. was taken to Brokaw Hospital and transferred to St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, where he was undergoing treatment late Wednesday night. Gary Granitt, 16, of 804 N. Linden Normal, was listed in fair condition at Brokaw Hospital Wednesday night.

Todd Kirchner, 15, of 403 N. Oak Normal, was treated at Brokaw Hospital and released. Sheriff's police did not have information on the driver of the car. BEASON (PNS) funeral services for James Claude Rice, 69, of rural Beason, who died Tuesday at Lincoln, will be Friday. The Rev.

Paul R. Beach will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery, rural Atlanta. There will be no visitation. Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Feb. 7, 1909, in DuQuoin, a son of James H. and Mary King Rice. He married Leta O. Beeler on June 20, 1936, in Clinton.

She survives. Also surviving are six daughters, Ethel Frakes and Barbara Reed, both of Lincoln; Wanda Cramer, Belleville; Kelly Halcomb, Beason; Sandra Bennett, Tampa, and Shelly Rice, at home: five sons, James Mitchel H. and Merle all of Lincoln; Gerald Loami; and Forrest at home; 51 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Three daughters, one son, three grandchildren and 18 brothers and sisters preceded him in death. Mr.

Rice worked for Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 34 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Railroad Firemen and Oilers Union. Clarence Rohlfing BELLFLOWER (PNS) -Clarence Rohifing, 87, died Wednesday morning at Country Health Nursing Home, Gifford. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Stensel's Funeral Home, Bellflower, the Rev.

James Ruberg officiating. Burial will be in Bellflower Cemetery. Visitation will be from an hour before the service. He was born Oct. 30, 1891, at Lawrenceburg, a son of Louis and Elizabeth Heitkamp Rohlfing.

He married Stella Richards Feb. 24, 1920, a 1920. She survives. A sister, Irene Buchan, Osman, survives along with several nieces and nephews. A son preceded him in death.

He was a retired farmer and World War I veteran. He was a member of the Osman-Walker Methodist Church, the American Legion and the Bellflower Masons. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Miss McDonald was born June 28, 1885, in Bloomington, a daughter of Patrick and Bridget Walsh McDonald. Among survivors is a sister, Margaret Raycraft, 913 W. MacArthur Ave.

10 West Clinton Vera King The funeral of Vera M. King, 54, of 2118 Skyline Court who died Tuesday will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Beck Memorial Home, with the Rev. Richard Newhall officiating. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the memorial home. She was born May 26, 1924, in Avon, N.C., a daughter of Carl A. Johnson and Beulah Whitmire Johnson, She married William L. King Sept.

21, 1946, in Holly Springs, N.C. He survives. Also surviving are a son, Richard, Portland, a daughter, Linda Williams, Springfield; two sisters, Agnes Faircloth, Fayetteville, N.C., and Annie Ruth Flowers, Cary, N.C.; and one grandchild. He parents and one brother preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

Agnes Ziemans The funeral of Agnes E. Ziemans, 80, of 1101 W. Wood who died at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday at Hawthorne Lodge Nursing Home, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Normal.

The Rev. Leland Uden will officiate. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Thursday at Beck Memorial Home. She was born in Bloomington, Nov. 1, 1898, the daughter of Andrew and Amanda Anderson Mattson. She married Herman Ziemans April 23, 1918, in Bloomington. He survives.

Also surviving are a sister, Anna Daley, 1212 N. Mason and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers preceded her in death. Mrs. Ziemans was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.
