stations in Elizabethtown and Carrollton to change channels to make way for a more powerful station in the Lexington area The FCC also approved a call-letter change for the Lexington-area station WFMI it will become WLFX The station licensed to Winchester and operating at 1001 on the FM dial plans to increase its power and construct a taller tower northwest of Lexington The new call letters will be heard beginning at midnight today i I I i I i i I i Ik fc i ft 4 The FCC reclassified WFMI WLFX from a Class A station to a Class C2 station Class A stations are limited to 3000 watts or less while a Class C2 station may broadcast with up to 50000 watts and use a taller tower The result is a substantially wider broadcast area If the FCC approves a construction permit WLFX will build a tower 12 to 15 miles northwest of Lexington within two years said Gary Jensen vice president of the change from teen-oriented rode to a more adult rock sound But the increase in power and change in tower height
