PAGE SIX DENTON JOURNAL, DENTON, MARYLAND Friday, June 12, 1964 Concor By Gloria Durham Thirteen members answered roll call at Wednesday's WSCS meeting at Concord. Devotions were around Missions, with two 'film strips shown. One was on Albert Schweitzer and the other on migrant work on the Delmarva Peninsula. Plans for the WSCS picnic were made for Sunday, July 12th, at 6:30 p. m.

It will be covered dish buffet style, rain or shine. When the meeting was closed, the hostesses, Lucille and Bertha Maloney, served pineapple upside-down cake, mints, coffee and tea. With all the talk and concern about Bible reading in school, thought you may be interested in reading this poem that was first published in Cincinnati. "Now I sit me down in school, Where praying is against the rule For this great nation, under God, Finds public mention of Him odd. Any prayer a class recites Now violates the Bill of Rights.

Anytime my head I bow Becomes a Federal matter now. Teach us of stars or pole and equator, But make no mention of their Creator. Tell of exports in Denmark and Sweden, But not a word on what Eve did in Eden. The law is specific, the law is precise, Praying out loud is no longer nice. Praying aloud in a public hall Upsets believers in nothing at all.

In silence alone can we meditate, And if God should get the credit, Great. This rule, however, has a gimmick in it, You've got to be finished in less than a minute. So all I ask is a minute of quiet, If I feel like praying, then maybe I'll try it. If not, Lord, this plea I make, Should I die in school, my soul you'll take." Sunday afternoon, Rev. Walter Stone, Executive Secretary of the Board of Education, conducted a training session for Sunday School teachers.

Nine teachers from the Charge, including Ruth Mitchell, Nina Smith, Miriam and Dallas Neal, Loretta Nichols, Florence Love, Nellie Williams, Eloise Larrimore and Gloria Durham, learned about the new materials and how to make better use of the ones we have at present. Shout it from the roof tops, Shout it from the plains, The VFW baseball team Won their first game. That's the team Jerry Adams and my Larry play for, and by rights I should have written it in headlines. The score was 19-14 and the game was called due to darkness in the 6th inning. It's a good thing, too, some of us were getting hoarse.

Birthday greetings to Wayne Robinson on Flag Day, June 14, and to Mildred Bell Beauchamp on the 18th. May your days be very pleasant.
