The New Mexico Aggies had what it took when it was needed and wrecked the title hopes in the 13-9 victory yesterday at Kidd Field It was a' very sad afternoon for many in an overflowing homecoming crowd But there can be no extenuating circumstances nor any alibis The better team won yesterday as the better team often does The Miners played their best but it enough Congratulations Jerry Hines and Vaughan Corley You put a smartly-coached fight- ing team on the team that licked the Miners in the air and on the ground And another -bouquet to a guy named Eddie Miller who fashioned each of the two touchdowns for the Aggies HE Miners were all set to stop end runs of Miller And to a certain extent they succeeded Miller with interferers throwing a proverbial cloak around him made yardage around the flanks but not to any dangerous amount It was his passes for which the Miners seemed to have no defense that beat the Orediggers yesterday But the guy can pack the ball for money a past football team looked back today with satisfaction on a season of eight defeats and one victory because that 7 to 6 victory over the Texas Aggies kept clear a tradition that Texas must win Thanksgiving Following on the heels of a freshman victory over Aggieland by the identical score Texas alumni were ready to believe the has begun to function Joy was not lessened much by the Aggie touchdown though it was the first made by the boys from College Station at Austin since Memorial Stadium was dedicated with a Texas victory in 1922' Alvin Olbrich a substitute guard broke that non-scoring Jinw for tbe Bp United Preee AUSTIN Nov 25 Texas-exes with a vote of in the athletic program of the University of Texas under leadership of Dana Bible today planned a huge athletic banquet at Union build-ing on the campus for Dec 8 5 of football games this year SAFETY MAT HAVE HURT a Mines fans rejoiced long after the were given a safety in the closing minutes of the second quarter when Miller was dumped ivbehind his own goal line But that safety might have olfiirt the chances of getting at least a tie in the game The "Miners had so much steam at that me that there would have been tfca gpod possibility of them march-fmg right back pay dirt if the had kicked out instead of being thrown for two points The two attractions in the game 9aawere Miller and Heineman They JJpffilled the packed crowd with dare devil feats time and rotime again Miller had it- all 'over Hfineman in passing but the Mines player had a shade the yR better of it on the running game Ue made 98 yards from the line 4 of scrimmage an average of SK yards per try- Miller totaled 90 yards and his average was four -yards As far as his running game is concerned Heineman should have a i headache before each game he plays -The Aggie forward wall oiit-played the front line a good part of the time Charley Graham jva -guard was the big defensive star the Aggies The Miners made a lot of their territory over Joe Yurcic star Aggie tackle in the first half but Yurcic came back played a good game in the second-half Barry Pennington and iRiley Matheson I thought1 were the outstanding men in the Mines Inline -AGGIES WORK SCREEN Omitting the details of a drab first period we can start with the Aggie touchdown in the second quarter Texas Tech fooled the Miners on a screen pass and the Aggies pulled practically the same £play to advance to scoring terri-tory 'Miller faded back to pass 5 A swarm of Miners surged after him and it looked 'like they were going to spill him for a loss But he uncorked a short pass to Smith who ran some 25 Syards to the Miner five On the third play Miller slant- ed off right tackle for a touch- down kick for extra point was wide and the score stood 6-9 in favor of the Aggies It looked like the Aggies made a inis take in scoring that touchdown Crhey might as well have prodded the Miners with a red-hot poker For the Orediggers got the ball proceeded to drive straight jdown the field in a series of shat-tering power thrusts to score HEINEMAN SCORES From their 19 they got going A £lS-yard penalty on the Aggies helped Then Heineman on a re- verse made 12 and a first down on This 46 Barrett and Heineman pep-Cpered the line for another first down on the 37 Barrett olmd a hole at tackle for 10 yards They were only six yards from pay dirt after Heineman tram-1 neted through right tackle for 1L ne added a yard on another play Barrett netted two more and then Heineman scored on a reverse (the right the same play that gave the Muckers touchdowns over "Arizona and Tempe ineman kicked goal to put the Miners-7-6 ahead kick a little later ameto a dead stop on the one- $rard Stripe Miller went back to 'kick oVt of danger He either saw that he was too fiard-pressed by the Miners and ho thought he could run the ball out Anyway he stqrled slipped and feU and was pounced upon by i Goal Posts There Anyway THE goal posts at -Kidd Field were still there when I went to the dressing rooms of the two teams after the game Wonder why the habit of tearing up the goal posts after a game hit this part of the country? There was a strange quietness in the Mines dressing room but the players did no whining or beefing They found nothing in the final score to laugh or joke about but they hid their disappointment the right way it seemed to me Victory Doesn't Cheer Hines EVERYBODY was more cheerful in the Aggies dressing room everybody with the exception of Coach Hines He still had a funeral expression on his face a few shades sadder than when the Aggies came off the field at the halL trailing 9-6 "It was a tough he said He was pleased with the way his team came back in the last half told them they were a bunch of sissies at the he said He singled out Eddie Miller as the individual star of the game and then handed some posies to Melvin Ritchey the left end It Ended All Too Soon HE first half last long said Coach Mack Saxon of the Miners had then on the run then and might have scored again if it ended are no alibis Some team has to lose and it our day The Aggies deserve a lot of credit for coming back like they Outside of Kenneth Heineman Saxon praised the work 1 of Fred Barrett and Morris Raney the players played hard football They did their best and I have nothing but praise for Nobody Guards Ritchey ZIGGY SEARS National League umpire who was one of the officials was asked what he thought of the game I thought ther Miners were going to win by a walkaway in the second quarter but those Aggies came back in the third period with a lot of fire were the Miners when that fellow (Ritchey) caught that pass for a touchdown? There anybody close to Sears seemed more interested in showing his diamond ring which was presented to him in the Mast world series games by Judge Landis They Provide Fireworks THE game was advertised As a duel between Heineman and Miller They put on some real fireworks for the fans The Aggies shackled Heinemsn's passing arm but he proved a galloping yard eater on the ground lie and Barrett sparked the Miners on their long scoring drive which carried 81 yards ne made the longest run from scrimmage In the game a 24-yard jaunt in the second quarter sweeping around right end and cutting back -over right tackle to take the ball to the Mines 44 He came close to being the whole show for the Miners Except for Barrett the other Miner backs were no balls of fire carrying the ball Reserve Out Of Sun
