Dixon, Illinois, Friday, January 13, 1960 SOCIETY NEWS Meeting of Girl Scout Association The Girl Scout association meeting held Tuesday evening at the Lov eland Community House was well attended. It opeiud with the singing- of songs led by Mrs. VV. E. Gronberg followed by a Model Girl Scout meeting presented by the sixth and seventh grade troop of St.

Mary's school under the leadership of Mrs John Fox and Mrs. Arthur Mills. The girls were all in uniform and were very mi-Mrs. Victor Eichler and Mrs. George Reed then invested leaders and board members who had not previously been invested.

Special awards were given by Mrs. Eichler to Mrs. Harry Newcomer, Mrs. E. L.

Houden and Mrs. George Stiles for five years of service and Mrs. Victor Eichler, Mrs Norman W. Dietrch, Mrs. Lyle Melvm and Mrs Vernon Duke for 10 years of Mrs.

Duke who is the retiring president of the Girl Scout board, which she has served faithfully and dihgentlv for two years, was ri Thank You badg. of Eichler in making the svaperA fi I tion told of Mrs. Duke's Girl Scout services in Homewood, 111 Mrs. Duke brought this knowledge to Dixon and has given freely of her time and ability. Following this Mrs.

Duke spoke briefly on local, national and international Girl Scouting. She mentioned that at the National Convention in Milwaukee it was decided to emphasize: 1. Better scouting for more girls, stressing the idea of partnership between girls and adults. 2. Further development of international friendship.

3. More and better camping. Dixon has been aware of these needs and has i been stressing them. Mrs. Duke then conducted a busines meeting at which time it was decided that this year Day and Troop camping will be emphasized believing that more girls will have the opportunity for camping in this way.

After much discussion it was voted to change from the Traditional form to the Association form of Girl Scouting. This had been under consideration for the past year. Present At this time Mrs. Harry Kerz as Chairman of the nominating and membership committee presented two slates which were voted upon and accepted. Members of the nominating and membership committee are as follows: Mrs.

Harry Kerz, chairman, Mrs. Jack Little, Mrs. Claude Horton, Mrs. Lavere Keeney, Mrs. Louis Smow and Mrs.

George Stiles. The first slate presented was for new officers: President, Mrs. W. Gronberg; vice president, Mrs. Clifford Martin: secretary, Mrs C.

C. Clausen and treasurer. Mrs. Ivan The second slate presented was for board members and members at large Board Mrs. Harry Kerz, Mrs Oscar Smith.

Mrs William Anthony, Mrs. Victor Eichler, Mrs. Norman W. Dietrich. Mrs.

Wilbur Fulfs, Mrs Allen Whitmcr. Mrs. Lyle Melvin, Mrs. O. B.

Gerlach, Mrs. George Curtis, Mrs. George Campbell, Mrs. Donald Raymond, Mrs. Paul Johns, Mrs.

George Egbert, Mrs. Wlliam Barthelmes. and Mrs. Lyle Myers. Members at large are the school principals: Miss.

Mollie Duffy, Miss Esther Barton, Miss Mary Alice Buchanan, Miss Edith Sciioll and Sister Flavian. Following the adjournment of the business meeting, Mrs Duke invited the members to have refreshments served by Mrs. Norman Dietrich, chairman; Mrs. Oscar Smith, Mrs. Charles Patchett and Mrs.

Amvets Auxiliary Plans Puppet Show A special meeting of the Amvets Auxiliary, Post 123, was called for Tuesday evening. Jan. 10, at the Amvet hall. The main topic of discussion was the coming puppet show to be sponsored by the auxiliary at the Dixon high school auditorium, the night of Tuesday, February 21. Committees were appointed for the activities: newspaper publicity, Anne Hannan; poster committee, Elaine Cramer and Kern Pittman, co-chairman; ticket sales, Alyce Yeast and Virginia Strub; ticket takers, Anne Hannan, Phyllis Kelly, Anne Short and Mary Jane Ellis; ushers, Dag-mar Ballard and Jeff Riopelle; school committees, Lorraine Heck-man, Fern Pittman, Margaret Im-feld, Elaine Cramer and Jeff Riopelle.

A letter was read from Greater Peona Post No. 64, inviting the Amvets and Auxiliary to the annual state Round-up Jan. 14 and 15 at Peoria. National Commander Harold Russell is to be an honored guest at the round-up. There is to be a dinner beginning at 6 Saturday evening and a dance beginnnig at 9.

At this meeting the new officers will preside. DINNER GUESTS Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wolfe 503 Dixon avenue, entertained guests at dinner Wednesday evening "Hands Around the World" by using two dolls dressed as English and American girl scouts with their arms encircling a globe. Mrs.

2 Plum Hollow Ladies Party Twenty-three girls attended the monthly card party at Plum Hollow Tuesday afternoon. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Alice Finch. Mrs. Dorothy Rhodes and Mrs.

Jean Smith Winners at cards were- High, Gwen Saan and Myrtle Swan and low, Venue Scott and Martha Witzleb. Hostesses for the next card party, Feb. 7th, will be Vernie Scott, Berniece Wadsworth and Gertrude Swan. A dessert bridge will be enjoyed at this time The girls decided upon a Valentine party for Saturday, Feb. 11th, at the club house.

The committee will be composed of Gwen Saan. Betty Fcltes. Clara Villiger and Martha Witzleb. All members are asked to keep this date in mind. There will be music, dancing and OES PARLOR CLUB The OES Parlor Club will enjoy a desert bridge Monday, Jan.

16th. at 1:30 p.m. at the Masonic Temple. Mrs. Ed Rosecrans, Mrs.

Charles Finley and Miss Gertrude Youngman will be the hostesses. DIXON EVENING TELEGRAPH Page Five Sublette Pair To Be Honored Sublette Mr and John Dinges, well known Sublette rt'Si-donts and members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Monday. Jan 16 The festivities wall begin with a high mass of thanksgiving at 9 o'clock in Our Lady of Perpetual Help church, offered by the Rev. Edward J. Lehman.

At this tune they will renew their manage vows taken 50 years ago. A family dinner will be served at 11 30 and the jubilanans will receive their friends at "open house" that afternoon from 2 to 4 o'clock and in the evening from 7 to 9 o'clock at their home. John Dinges. son of the late Peter and Chnstma (Schaub) Dinges and Lillian Reis, daughter ot the late George and Margaret (McCallvin) Reus, were married in St. Mary's Catholic church (now Our Lady of Perpetual Help church), Sublette, January 16, 1900, by Father Joseph Rempey.

Attending the couple at Uiat time were, Cornelius Dinges and Miss Tena Burkardt, now Mrs. Jacob Michel of West Brooklyn, who will again be their attendants on Monday. The couple started farming southwest of Sublette where they resided until the year 1944 when they retired from their farm and purchased a bungalow in the village of Sublette where they have since made thei rhome They are the parents of eight children- Mrs Gilbert (Ruth) Ma-lach. Knowille, Tenn Ruoben Dinges. Sublette, Ralph Dinges, Chicago; Lester Dinges, Sublette; Mrs.

Gilbert (Velma) Kellen, Sublette: and Mrs. Robert (Dolores) Leake, Rockford. A daughter, Mrs. Tony (Martha) Pilli-tach is deceased as is also a daughter, Margaret, who died in infancy. They have 22 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Mr. Dinges who is 73 is quite active and a member of the Holy Name Society. Mrs. Dinges who is 67" takes care of all her household duties and is a faithful member of the St. Anne society.

Legion Auxiliary To Honor Veterans Membership and the hospitalized veterans at Dixon State hospital held the floor when the American Legion auxiliary met Wednesday evening for their regular business meeting at the American Legion hall. Mrs. Jake Snyder, membership chairman, has planned a drive for Sunday afternoon, Jan. 15, to attempt to contact all remaining members before the delinquent date of Jan. 31.

A lunch will be served at the hall to all participants following the drive. All mothers, wives, daughters and sisters of Legionaires are eligible to become members of the auxiliary. Unit Rehabilitation chairman, Mrs Iva Callahan, and her committee, have set Jan. 26th as the date for the dinner and program for the veterans at Dixon State hospital. Following the 6:30 dinner the program will be in charge of Mrs Jerry Greasby, music chairman.

Acknowledgements were read from Edward Clamage, state chairman and Fred Enichen, post chairman, of the "Gifts for Yanks who Gave Mrs. Roy DeWerff, unit president, announced that another post and auxiliary scramble supper will be held Jan. 22nd at the Legion hall. Refreshments were served by Mrs. John Mitchell, Mrs Don Phillips, Mrs.
