According to those best informed in the administration, the failure of Taft means war with Cuba, possibly not with those now known as insurrectionists, but certainly with the government troops. Orders have been Issued for 1,000 more stationed alone the Atlantic coast, to get ready for Immediate departure. There are also 3,000 blue- Jackets, In the navy, under the same orders. Sept. postoffice department has been advised that Postmaster Price, negro In charge of the South Atlanta postoffice, was Instrumental In supplying the negroes with guns and ammunition. The department is informed that Price used the office for a rcndevouz for the negroes on the night of the first attack and was the man who appointed leaders and seg- gregated the men Into companies to fight under the one man at their head. Ing down stream In the vicinity of Tanatalus the White Pass Yukon steamer Columbian caught fire and was completely destroyed. The fire Ignited several tons ot black powder, which exploded and completely wrecked the vessel. The flames then spread to all parts of the boat and although she was run ashore the crew had a hard fight to save It la reported that the first mate. a man by the name ot Welsh, and one ot the crew, bu the name of Murray, a son ot Capt. Hurray of the White Seal are lost.

Several of the deckhands were more or less seriously Injured, being burned In some Instances severely and perhaps In ono or two cases fatally. The vessel had on about 200 tons of freight which was all lost One passenger was on the steamer. He was slightly burned. NEWSPAPER!.
