stree a brother Earl Gib bons of Kingstree and ten grandchildren Three Juveniles ace Charges DARLINGTON Darlington Sheriff Jack said Wednesday that three juveniles were arrested and charged with 13 counts of housebreaking in the past six months The boys ages 14 and 15 were charged with housebreaking larceny and vandalism The sheriff said the boys had entered homes and schools in Department that congress men of 12 southern and border states overwhelmingly favor Sen Barry Goldwater Ariz as a nominee for the vice presidency Spence said he queried con gressmen from Alabama Ar kansas lorida Georgia Loui siana Mississippi North Caro lina Oklahoma South Carolina Tennessee Texas and Virginia All those responding to his survey Spence said found Goldwater to be acceptable Goldwater is the to serve more than 200 children and adults in facilities for the mentally retarded in the Pee Dee An expanded state budget for the Pee Dee ranging from seven to eight times the 1973 74 allocation is expected to finan ce the expansion of child care and adult workshop centers that will serve an additional 216 persons by June 30 1975 accor ding to Roy Williams superin tendent of the Pee Dee Center for Mental Retardation Williams announced recently that about six new group homes in six counties are expected to open by the end of the June 1974 75 fiscal year Two such residential facilities are operating now in lorence The Center is also awaiting acquisition of a nursing home in Darlington County which was funded by the 1974 General Assembly The nursing home will house about 100 patients when it opens Williams said Counting the nursing beds and group homes Williams' predicted have 250 beds within the near The beds will not be in one central site he said but in several of the 13 counties within the cen ter's bailiwick The superintendent would not say however if the expanded number of beds would preclude a large residential center Referring to charges by for mer superintendent Highway Department reported Thursday The department said 498 per sons had been killed in traffic accidents by Aug 10 At the same time last year 576 persons had died and in 1972 the count was 644 A
