4-C--SUNDAY, APRIL 24, 1977 FLORENCE MORNING NEWS Vilos Defeats Nastase for Virginia Beach Title VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- Fourth-seeded Guillcrmo Vilas of Argentina, playing with"a scraped knee he suffered during a spill in the first set, beat third-seeded Hie Nastaseof Homaiiia 6-2,4-6, M Saturday for Ihe championship of the Virginia Ueach Tennis Classic. The victory earned Vilas the $32,000 first prize, plus a $50.000 bonus (or his performances in this tournament and .·mulher held seven weeks ago at Ocean City. Md. Although winds of 15 to 20 mites per hour were a factor, Vilas seemed less affected in the decisive third set when he broke Noslase's service, three times while losing his own serve just once. "He's ... like that," said Vilas of Naslase. "I never complained to the referee about il. It didn't bother me." FRIDAY GAMES New Covnant came out on the long end of a H-13 extra-inning game with Highland Park. W. l/X'klair drove in Ihe winning run with a two-out single. In llie weeks' final game, Immanuel whipped Grace 10-6. T. Tyner and F. Hnnna led Immanuel with three nils ench, as their learn jumped out lo a quick 8-1 lead and held on for the win.
