1731 Don Roberts, head custodian, 608 North 5tb. 608WV. City, School Budgets Opposed At Des Moines Dos Moinry. Sept. 5 UP) Longthy written protests signed by 263 taxpayers have been filed here opposing the 1952 and schools budgets and asking the state honrd of appeals to 1'(- duce them.

Polk county Auditor Harold E. Anderson snid the protests were filed yesterday and that he will immediately notify the state nppeal hoard. The board. which has the authority to reduce the budgets, must set a date for the hearing and then must make decision late than Oct. 15, according to state law.

The budgets, which call for record expenditures of $10.499,742 for the city and $9,113,030 for the schools, were approved last month by the city council and the school board. Euch budget was nearly a million dollars. more than this year's. About two-thirds of the taxpayors signing the protests were ownurs of income property. It was the first time In at least 10 years that cither city or schools budget has been appealed to the state.

The deposit of unsuccessful bidders will be returned to them within twenty-four hours after demand And the deports of successful bidder or bidders will be returned upon filing with the County Auditor, the bond herein required. The drains and improvements are to be constructed according to spocifications on file in the County Auditor's Office, Dated at Estherville, Iowa, this 27th day of August. 1951.
