today at the Bourbon County hospital after a long illness She Is survived by her husband Dr Gladden Is Speaker At Lions Club Hundreds of persons In Lexington who were born between 1925 and 1935 depression years will have a very pronounced personality difficulty in the next 10 years Dr James Gladden of the Department of Sociology told Lions Club members today Dr Gladden a board member of the Lexington Family Service stated that the agency is the only source of aid available to local residents who have such problems He noted that ministers are not trained to solve family problems doctors are not though they try The Family Service organization although under-staffed and under-financed otters case work services to all Lexington families regardless of income and is concerned about them according to the speaker The board member of the Community Chest agency launched a new program of the presentation of its purpose and service at the Lions Club luncheon meeting He explained that the local chapters of the organization have been primarily case work centers for famines of all financial levels since the government took over financial aid to families In 1935 your family had a very real problem right now where would you Dr Gladden asked the group He said the agency here Is faced with an accute problem of finding families who need help for these three reasons: 1 Lexington Is affected by the rural philosophy that families should not necessarily be happy and should take care of their own problems as best they can 2 Lexington Is mostly an aristocratic community which believes In concealing any family crisis 3 Lexington Is a religious community and believes that family dis-organization is a sign of personal failure an da matter of aid only Yet the speaker pointed out Lexington has more divorces than almost any other city In the state He said the courts are too busy handing out divorces to save the marriages that ought not be broken up He added that approximately 100000000 persons are In need of help with family difficulties each year in the United States Dr Gladden aaid that a new family philosophy Is needed: That a good family life Is a necessity for everyone rather than a luxury for middle or upper clasa persons He was introduced by the Rev Leonard Nienaber also a member of the Family Service board Brandenburgh a new vice president of the dub presided at the luncheon held at the Lafayette hotel The group passed two resolutions: An invitation to the Lions Club state convention to meet in Lexington In 1954 and a resolution
