llllllllllllllllllllllll 3 By Neville Dunn KNOXVILLE Tenn Nov A Tennessee team that gathered peed and picked lip finesse as the hands of the big field clock swung around the dial conquered the University of Kentucky Wildcats 33 to 0 on Shields-Watkins field here this afternoon In the stands watching this newest edition of the great elevens coached by Major Bob Neyland were 25000 fans the largest crowd ever to see a game In the Kentucky-Tcnnessee series that started way back in 1899 The Vols achieved their victory rather easily They didn't muff a coring opportunity and the spectacular work of such stars as Buist Warren Bob Foxx Johnny BuUer Bob Suffridge and Mike Balitsaris added spree to a result that was pretty blue for the Kentuckians The Wildcats however put up stubborn resistance and their line has yet to yield enough to be disgraced Only one of Tennessee's five touchdowns was made on a rushing play and that was a reverse thq third in a row by Robert Andridge that just netted the one yard necessary to make the tally All of the other Volunteer touchdowns were made in the air three on passes thrown by the Vols and one on a pass which was intercepted by Fred Newman and run back 40 yards to a touchdown Tennessee was balked through out the first quarter by line and The Vols made not a single first down Kentucky on the other hand showed enough offensive fireworks to tally four first downs and to make the thousands of Tennessee fans somewhat uneasy over the possible outcome of the battle But In the second period with startling suddenness Tennessee got In scoring territory when Balitsaris blocked Ermal Allen's fourth-down punt on the Kentucky 37 and before the Wildcats could quiet their throbbing pulses and settle down to fight back this menace the Vols had a touchdown Score On PaM The score was made on a pass a beauty from Butler to Balitsaris that started from the nine-yard line The Vols had rushed to that point of vantage on three running plays that netted 13 yards and a 15-yard penalty against Kentucky for piling on after a tackle On the first play from the nine Butler nonchalantly tossed the ball to Balitsaris who received it in faultless manner over his shoulder while outwitted Kentucky backfield men tried vainly to block it The Vols made that touchdown look mighty Yale Crushed Western Tops Murray 6 To 0 By Harvard Hilltoppers Score On Dulaney's Pass Crimsons Submerge Elis By 28 To 0 Retail merchants are forced to gamble judgment against public taste and weather conditions By Mid-Novcm-ber we definitely know glory road for Western State Teachers today as an unsung halfback Ben Dulaney pitched a soggy football through a misty rain for the touchdown lhat gave Weatern a 6-0 win over Murray State Tcachera A drenched crowd of 5000 saw the teams' offenses stalemated during the first quarter by stalwart defenses As the second quarter opened Dulaney faded buck and passed to End Tip Downing who sprinted 15 yards for the score Johnny Taylor's try for the extra point was blocked Murray fighting for a bright fin ish to a mediocre season almost completely halted ground attack Led by co-captain and center James Johnson the Murray lino caused the Western rushing attack to register a two-yard loss during the first half But in the air it was a different story With Dulaney pitching Murray was constantly threatened after the touchdown was scored Each threat however fizzled out in the face of the powerful defense Western gained 127 yards through the air to seven for Murray Western gained a total of 123 yards from scrimmage and Murray 77 if Associated Press Wirephoto KENTUCKY BACK8 GAIN AGAINST Kentucky backs are gaining ground In each of these two photos taken yesterday afternoon as the University Nov 24 A merclleaa Harvard eleven put the finishing touches on one of the disastrous football seasons In Yale history by crushing Its old rival 28 to 0 before a crowd of 47 000 in Yale Bowl today In absorbing their seventh beating in eight starts this autumn the Elis threatened only in the opening period and then virtually collapsed as the big Crimson team gathered power to score one touchdown each in the second and third quarters and two in the fourth Yale made only two first downs In the last three periods both in its own end of the field For Harvard the victory brought a tie with Princeton for the Three" title and a world of satisfaction Today's was the most onesided walloping handed Yale by Harvard team since the 41 to 0 rout back in 1915 The Harvard root era were so determined after the game to tear down Yale's concrete goal posts that it finally was necessary to cool them off with the stadium watering system But even then it took darkness to make them desist entirely It was only third win of the season so its followers probably had a right to celebrate Once they got started today the boys from Cambridge looked like quite a football team spectacular on the attack and practically invulnerable on defense They made their first three touchdowns from far down the field blasting loose each time with sudden ground-devouring plays that took Yale by surprise and made the crowd catch Its collective breath Francis Lee a New Haven youngster who must have wandered up to Cambridge by mistake turned in the most brilliant individual play of the game when he tucked a punt under his arm at the start of the final period and raced 78 yards to score Not a Yale tackier touched him as he sprinted down the side lines after having done a cute bit of faking a pass to a teammate And by way of rubbing it in it was still another New Haven product Charlie Spreyer who bucked across the final Harvard touchdown in six straight tries from the £6-yard line Capt Joe Gardella was not yet whipped however and for the remainder of the second quarter it stormed the Volunteer citadel The Cats on one occasion got as close as the Tennessee 19-yard line There however a five-yard penalty set them back to the 24 and with only seconds of playing time remaining before intermission the blue-shirted boys decided to try a field goal Inasmuch as they were then trailing 7 to 0 the strategy of trying to get a three-point field goal was rather obscure to the spectators The field goal attempt wasn't close the ball flying off crazily from Billy toe and hitting In the end zone on
