THURSDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 3,1987 MAINLAND EXTRAS Christmas concert, sing-a-long slated CLEAR LAKE Final plans for the Yuletide Celebration's Dec. 20 Christmas concert and sing-along by the Houston Symphony have been announced by Jailanr Ebeid and Nayla Aneed, cochairman of the event. Houston Symphony Orchestra's new assistant conductor Richard Fletcher will conduct his debut performance in the Bay Area at the holiday concert. A graduate of New York's Juilliard School of Music, he comes to Houston from the New York Philharmonic, where he was assistant conductor under Zubin Mehta for two years. Fletchers completed studies at Juilliard under Sir George Solti, Roger sessions and was honored as a Fulbright scholar while finishing a European study tour in Vienna.

He has also appreared regularly with the Boston Symphony Orchestra as an accom- plished double bass performer. This year's program is entitled "Under the Christmas Tree," and features Yuletide classics of the Romantic era. Works include Rimsky-Korsakov's Poiannaise, Vaughn Williams' Fantasia on Greensleeves, excerpts from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Pro- kofiev's Troika and Skater's Waltz byWaldteufel. The second half will include popular Christmas songs, including White Christmas. The traditional sing-a-long will be led by Don Rauscher and will feature a medley of traditional holiday favorites.
