March 14, 1956 Mison City, U. Art Contest Scheduled for Handicapped CEDAR FALLS Prizes totaling more than $3,000 will be awarded winners of a national art contest for the physically handicapped, according to an announcement by the governor's committee on employment of the physically handicapped. Harry G. Guillaume, head of the art department at Iowa State Teachers College, is a member of the committee. "Only original work done in oil, water color, gouache, or tempera is eligible," says Dr.

Guillaume. "Only handicapped persons who do not earn the major portion of their income as artists will be allowed to enter the contest." The deadline for entries is May 1, and winners will be announced by July 31. The contest is sponsored by President Eisenhower's Committee on Employment of the Physically Handicapped, the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, the Veterans Administration, and the Morris Morgenstern Foundation. Five prominent representatives of the art profession will be named to judge the entrants. Prizes to be awarded are: First place, second place, $500; third place, $250; fourth through tenth place, $100 each; llth through 22nd place, $50 U.

Mrs. Sage Dies at Northwood; Rites on Friday Tenold Sage, 83, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Linn near iNortmvood. She had lived there for 2Vi years. Mrs.

Sage had suffered a brief illness. Services are scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Oscar Mikkelson officiating. The Bakke Funeral Home is in charge.

A family prayer service will be at 1:45 in the church chapel preceding the service. Burial will be at Sunset Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Tenold, who spent most of her life in Northwood, was born Oct. 25, 1872, in Worth County.

She was the daughter of Andrew 0. and Ingeber Lee Tenold. She married Theodore J. Sage in 1910. Mrs.

Sage taught for 28 years in the Worth County schools. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Andrew Petersen, Jamaica Plain, and Mrs. Pixley, Northwood; a son, Alvin R. Sage, Algona, and a sister, Mrs.

S. S. (Andrena) Helgeland, Northwood. She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and one sister. IS GI OF James L.

Matie Handorf, Dumont. He entered the Army in August 1954 and completed basic training at Camp Chaffee, Ark. Handorf graduated from Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, in 1954. His father, Harold J. Handorf, lives in Hampton.

Seven Schools Report on Election of Board Members School elections in North are still being reported. On Monday evening a record vote was cast at ballots. Dr. Phil Horton, 633 votes, and incumbent E. A.

Heiden, 576 votes, were elected. Other nominees were Harry Cook and Robert Barrick. Twelve absentee ballots were cast. At Rake 120 people voted with Archie Gullord getting 105 votes and Carroll Sunde, 81, for treasurer. Gullord was re-elected.

August Nerdig, incumbent, was re-elected with 55 votes, At Riceville Riceville voters gave Ben Buelt 60 votes for a two year term. Dr. William Calhoun was re-elected ifh fit yntoc Spsspnmeypf was re-elected as treausrer with 63 votes. Total vote was 66 ballots. A very light vote at Hampton brought 57 voters to the polls.

Stanley Aagessen and Dr. W. L. Randall were re-elected to three year terms and D. D.

Bramwell was re-elected treasurer. At the school election Monday at Union 3 at Mona, Dean Hoffman was elected as director replacing Lawrence Bruggeman. All other officers remain the same. Russell Sampson is president, Wilmer Krahn, treasurer; Clifford Robertson, secretary, and Irvin Baldner, director. Ira Hofland was re-elected for a three year term as director at the Mona school election.

Two Elected Two new directors were elected at Cresco Independent School election Monday for three year terms. They are Don Aspenson and Ralph Bauercamper. There were three candidates seeking board positions. Votes include Aspenson, 724 votes, Ralph Bauercamper, 590 votes, and Mrs. Helen Nierling, 324 votes.

J. P. Thomson was re-elected to a two year term as treasurer with 709 votes, A total of 872 votes were cast in the largest election in the history of the school. Two directors were re-elected at Greene when a light vote of 41 ballots were cast. Francis Scouts Pay Tribute to Founder NORTHWOOD The Iowa Girl Scout Council, District 1, held its annual Girl Scout Birthday party at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, Monday.

The program opened with an nformal song fest with Girl Scouts from Forest City, Lake Mills, Fertile and Northwood ioining in. After presentation of he colors, pledge of allegiance, Girl Scout Promise and Laws, Mrs. E. J. Kelly, Mason City, district Juliette Low chairman, to the girls about the first 5irl Scout.

The Girl Scouts of the district wnored their founder's memory jy contributing to Juliette Low World Friendship Fund. A representative from each troop placed a contribution to the friendship Fund in the "Horn of Plenty." The money in this fund spent in the name of Juliette for projects in international riendships. Mrs. Gayhart Peterson, district resident, Lake Mills, introduced he guests; Mrs. Nina Andrews, Mason City, North Iowa Council Mrs.

Harvey Gaarder, tforthwood, neighborhood chairman, and other distinguished guests. All Girl Scouts joined for the closing ceremony. Following the program, refreshments were served with Mrs. Clifford Perry, Northwood, in charge. Brinkman, 40 votes, and Dale Crosby, 39 votes, were the only ones on the ballot.

EUB CONFERENCE VENTURA Ventura EUB Church will hold a local conference meeting on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. potluck preceding the meeting. Floyd Elliot, Grand Meadows, were conducted at Grand Meadows Monday at the Methodist Church. Burial was in the Harrison Township Cemetery, Swea City.
