A Journal Devoted to the Interests of Lincoln County. VOLUME 12. CARKI550J50. LINCOLN COUNTY, NICW MEXICO, APKIL 28, 1911. NUMBER 12 A Big Hit and a Big Crowd.

If any doubt existed in the niuids of the Carrizozo people that histrionic talent is scarce in this town, it was dispelled last Friday evening when the Woman's Home Mission Society gave a recital for the benefit of the Methodist church. The hall was crowed to its capacity and every one went home felling they had gotten their money's worth. It was one of the best entertainments the town has seen, cacli number presented lacking nothing1 of dash or laughter-inspiring features. There were too many who to.tk part for special mention individually, but Mrs. F.

W. Whitting-hatn as "dc nigger wid dc razor" capped the climax and put to shame many of the professional minstrel performers who belong to the Circuit. She, at least, 'must be given a blue mark. "The Sniggles Family," a burlesque in one act, came in for its well-merited quota of praise and rounds of repeated applause. There were many encores throughout the evening, boquets from American Beauties to lettuce and onions, being presented to the performers.

The program will be repeated during court session in May. ti i A Trip to Smell Powder. William Kahler, who shouldered a musket in the civil war, nearly half a century ago, hearing that the insurrectos were on the eve of storming Juarez, and longing to hear the sound of a bugle call and to hear the rattle of musketry once more, took a trip to the border last week. After three days of wattinir he Will Act on Statehood Soon. Washington, D.

April 25. "Statehood occupies a definite place on the house program," said Chairman Floyd of the house committee on territories today. "It will be taken up just a soon as the free list bill and reapportionment bills are passed. These will not take over ten days. Tnen we will take up statehood.

Flic only possible! result of these hearings would alTect the resolution reported in the house. If the democrats have their way a vote will be taken when the state officers are elected on the proposition to change article V) of the constitution so as to make it more easily amendable." The house committee met again today. Judge Fall finished his remarks and Judge McGill was on the floor when adjournment was taken until Weduesdav. George Curry presented a tele-gram from W. S.

Hopewell asking what stand Ferguson, Hand and Jones were taking in the 'statehood light. This led the chairman to remark that he believed all New Mexico delegations democrat or republican, were seeking immediate statehood, the democrats seeking, if possible, a "more easily ameuda-ble constitution." Congressional Reapportionment. Washington, April 25 A bill for the reapportionment of the house on a basis of 433 members was reported favorably today by Chairman Houston, of the house committee on census. The size recommended is the same as provided in the Crumpacker bill, which passed the house in the returned without seeing the light session, and is an increase of come olf, and convinced that Mexico is the laud of manana. "Why," said he, "a thousand of my old comrades, with a good general to lead them, could inarch through the country and back again." That is big talk, but Dad was in the thick of many a bloody conflict, and is some authority on "how fields are fought and won." 41 over the present membership.

The Houston bill does not contain the provision of the Crumpacker bill authorizing the secretary of commerce and labor to reapportion the house after future national censuses. If the Houston bill becomes law, the representation will be one member for each 211,877 inhabitants, A subscriber writes from 13oni-ta Park as follows: Sunday night it drizzled. Monday we had a constant drizzling rain all day long and during Monday iiight there was two and one-half itlShes of water fell. All of it uaine so gently that it soaked into the ground without causing the stream to rise but little.
