Robbed of Money and Whiskey While carrying on his back a sack containing three gallons of whiskey James Jones an industrious and re pe ted colored man whose home is in Lancaster was held up by two white men near Traylors distillery In Lincoln county on last Saturday ght about nine oclock and after shooting Jones through the breast robbed him of 1000 in money and thlee gallons of whiskey Jones was ought back to his home in Lancaster after the shooting where he was given medical attention He is in a cry critical condition and little hope is had for his recovery Dock Terpin another negro who was near by when the assault was made and witnessed it after he had sufnc iently recovered from the fright stated that he and Jones bad gone over to the Traylor distillery to get some hiskey and while he waited at the vehicle Jones went through a back way to a house near the distillery and while he was gone Charley Humber and Alvin Thomas came up to his but gv and had a conversation with him Presently Jones came back toward the buggy the same way that he had gone to get to the house and Humber and Thomas advanced meeting Jones when near him demanded his goods Jones treated the request seemingly as a joke whereupon Humber drew a pistol and fired two shots only one of wbich took effect and when Jones nad then to the ground Thomas proceed ert to rob him of his effect He says the moon was shinning brightly and he could see the parties plainly and beard everything that passed between them After the parties had bbad him they ran away County Attorney Burch of incoln county came over to Lancaster Monday and placed warrants with Sheriff Ballard for the arrest of Hum ber and Thomas charging them with the crime but before the sheriff had time to get out to Hyattsville near where the
