.1 THE EXCHANGE NOV'R 14, 1878 William Knight, who murdered Thos Wilkins in Madison county last November, was last week sentenced to death by the Law Court I is to hang December 21st. The editor of the Holly Spring Eouth is now in favor of quarantine, and in future epidemics is for "stopping even the rat holea." We ert inclined to thiuk he is right. We do not approve of the attacks made upon Mnj. Beckerdite, our Senator elect. JIaj.

Beckerdite is a true man, a staunch Democrat, and will make an able, honest and diligent Benetor. We thought Mr Becker-lite' candidacy as an Independent Democrat ill-timed, but we make no war on him. He the choice of this district, and as such we deprecate the attacks now being made upon him. 8 jch attacks do no good. Let us pull together.

Riv ers, editor of the Dresden Yeoman, was recommended by tho convention in session here last week, for tho po-- w'tion of Clerfc of the State Senate. His untiring lalwrs as clerk of the convention testified to his eminent fitness for the position, and we know that no one more worthy can be found. We earnestly hope that he will secure the place. The Huntingdon Vindicator last week gave a long account of a new Hit recently Cartel in Henderson County by a named llge, who chimed to have descended to this earth in a meteor, and that he was the Messiah. His religion consisted in getting as many men and women to join him he could, the women to be coiinion property.

He secured a itumler of converts, but was finally driven from the county by the decent people. Last Saturday night Dodge Groouies stab! fatally wouuded a man named Coie at Hollow Rock in this county. It seems that they were wrestling, and both got mad. Groomes was arretted and gave bond for his appearance.

A gentleman named Williams, brother to ex-sherifl Williams, went deranged about ten days ago. He was at once brought here and placed in jail for safe-keeping until arrange meuts could be made to carry him to the asylum. He was wrong in the head ouce or twice before. IWuty Marshal Ilaun brought two pien last week from Hardin countv, said to have killed a negro and badly whipped another. One of them i9 a Methodisi preacher.

A negro who was brought along as a witness was aG-aid to return to Hardin, but sent after his family, and will take up his abode in Huntingdon. One day last week Mr Sidney Bau-eom, a very worthy gentleman living ome four miles east of town, bought eome morphine and ijuinine from a dru ttore. Over 105 Iran Old A Eicnt. Last Sunday religious services con ducted by Rev. II. S. Yerger were held at the residence of Mr.

Daniel Mayberry of this county, a centenari-an who passed his 104th year hrst August. Since this venerable man has entered into the second century of his life, his children and friends have been accustomed to assemble around him on his birth day, but this year the meeting was postoned until this month on account of the warm weather. On this interesting occasion divine services were held and the old man for the firtt time united with the He professed faith in Christ and joined the Presbyterian Church of this city, of which Air lerger is pastor. Mr Mayberry though very in firm, has still prospect for several more years on earth, He is the oldest man in Tennessee, and possibly the oldest in tiiis country. He is much esteemed by his neighbors, and is always aol to have them visit him.
