theatre which will be opened tomorrow night at 229 West Second street is a locally owned and operated project which was brought to Chico by Ned Steele and James Myers both experienced theatre men Steele is a former Chico man and for many years operated theatres at Colusa Williams Arbuckle Grimes and Maxwell He recently disposed of his theatre interests in Cohua county Myers has been identified with the film industry for the last 17 years largely in the distributing and advertising departments He will be the active manager of the Empire The building housing the new theatre was selected because of fts height which provides perfect vision and ventilating facilities It has been overhauled reinforced and remodeled from foundation to garret and no expense has been spared to make It one of the most comfortable safe and enjoyable show-houses in northern California Seating Capacity 700 It has a seating cajiacity of 700 and the seats are so situated and erected to provide maximum of room and comfort to patrons There are 170 loge seats on the mezzanine floor where smoking will lie permitted In the construction of the building it has been trussed and supported to withstand more than 100 per cent overload und was passed by a licensed engineer as liaving er cent over tlie 100 p5r cent safety Actor The ceiling and walls have been es)eeiilly designed Lo give perfect accoustics while the lighting effects and wall drapes are parti-cularly restful and pleasing The screen lx 1G by 22 feet and will permit of a large perfect picture projected by the very latest types of machines of a make soon to be put in the largest theatres hi the slate The sound equipment is likewise the most modern and improved that is on the market today and the management has stressed the fact that patrons will be given the- best pictures available with the best equipment available operated by experienced men only No Screen Advertising Manager Myers also emphasized that there will be no commercial advertising permitted on the Empire screen The heating and cooling factors have been given intense study by the management with the result that it is possible to change every particle of
