BRICK STREETS Gen liindsoy President of Gas Company Makes an Offer About Sale of Gas Bonds It is proposed that the Gaa Company bonds to the city to the amount of about 60000 be placed on tho markej and the proceeds devoted to the reconstruction of the streets with vitrified brick To this proposition the Gas Company make no objections but in a communication from Gen Lindsey the President it asks the city to guarantee the interest on the bonds to make them salable at better prices and to subscribe anew to the same terms and conditions in the present contract The company is also willing for about 175 per year moro than now required for lighting the same territory to turn off lights within that area and erect and maintain instead twenty four arc electric lights at as many street intersections on both the north and south side of the city The offer of the Gas Company appears to be very fair and even liberal and as the officers of the company are citizens of integrity and character whose interests in the welfare of the city are equal with the members of the council and the rest of the property holders there should be no delay about the business consideration of a matter of so much importance to the city now as to obtain the means for making Btreets that will not only adorn but will endure for such a lencth of time as to demonstrate pubic economy in the expenditure The summer is passing and prompt action is necessary if any vitrified streets are to be laid this year The peopleare with the council in this work and that body whioh in its efficient discharge of the trust repose in it has already given an impetus to the progressive spirit of the city that will for years shed a lustre upon tho name of each should not now halt and become woary in
