YOU NAME IT.! So Come Out — Quality, Value, Service — Growing Plants Is Our Business — 1421 JEFFERSON Open 8-7, Sun. 12-5 In last-minute work on the measure, the committee added an amendment lifting dairy price supports for the current 1973-74 marketing year to 80 per cent of the fair earning power parity price. In a companion move, the panel approved ah amendment limiting dairy product Imports to 2 per cent of the total an* nual domestic consumption of milk. Both amendments are expected to be opposed by the admin istration, which has set dairy supports for the current mar keting year at the legal floor of 75 per cent of parity, artd has been increasing dairy im port quotas this year in an effort to counter food inflation for consumers. Agriculture Secretary Earl L Butz, rejecting appeals for higher supports from dairy leaders and lawmakers, has set this year's milk suppost at $5.29 per hundredweight, or 75 per cent of parity. Butz had gone a step further by asking. Congress to remove, for future years, the legal barrier against setting supports below 75 per cent of parity. The Senate Agriculture Committee amendment would push supports to roughly.about $5.65 a hundredweight for the rest of the year ending March 31, equalling 80 per cent of parity, but would then allow supports in the following year to drop back to 75 per cent of parity. In the import field, the ceiling imposed by the Senate bill would be above the amount of dairy foods imported last year, but below the amount expected to enter the country this year 1 _ 1 1 1 ' ——————1 J - • 1 If You're Considering A Garage Consider Quality • 1' Overhang at Eaves with • Studs 16 O.C. • Insulated Sheathing On Side Walls (Not Paper) • 2 x 6 Rafters 24 O.C. • %" Roof Sheathing (Not %" As Used by Others) • Seal Down Shingles (Nailed Not Stapled) • Primed Siding Soffitt • 3 Windows • Service Door Standard • Full V Head Room at Overhead Door • Floor Drain Standard • As Low as $1970.00 16x22 BILL BLOYD - Builder 342-3074 Dairy industry experts est! mate that under current law, the import volume permitted by quotas is about 1.6 per cent of national consumption. But this year, using discretionary provisions, the President has already authorized over-quota imports of 25 million pounds of nonfat milk and 64 million pounds of cheese. In addition, he announced a move Thursday under which a further 60 million pounds of nonfat milk will be admitted by June 30. As a result, total dairy imports for the year ending June 30 will be "well above" the 2 per cent of national consumption ceiling which the Senate amendment would impose.
