and sincere regret that we announce the death at the family residence in this city yesterday after a long illness of Mrs Hannah Marsh Blackburn The deceased was the daughter of the late Captain Cyrus Marsh and was a lady of many rare and lovely traits of character Gentle and amiable she made none but friends those knowing her best loving her most She was a true Christian lady with a heart ever full of charity and her entire life was a beautiful yet modest and unostentatious one She leaves two daughters Mrs Dr Guthrie of Tensas Parish La and Mrs Prof Matt Harper of Jefferson county and a son Thomas besides an aged mother a sister brother and numerous other relatives all of whom will have the sincerest and most heart felt condolence of all in our com- munity to whom she had endeared herself by her sweet and lovable disposition The funeral will take place from the family residence 214 North Commerce street at 5 oclock this Thursday afternoon and all the friends and acquaintances of the family are in vited toattend Natchez Miss Democrat June 1 The deceased will be remenv beredby older citizens as the widowj of the late Robert Blackburn who was for years one of the leading dry goods dealers in this city During her residence here she made many friends who will regret to hear of her death Fell Over a Precipice Mr Frank Weitzel clerk in the establishment of Mrs Kate Welch on Main street and some friends started out Saturday night with the intention of going fishing balowjjthe lockand in order to reach their fishing ground took the old road running along the side of the hill between the Hemp Mill andjithe Distillery While walking in the dark Mr Weitzel slipped off the side of the road fand fell to the river bank below a distance of about thirty feet Hishead was badly cut and he wasgpicked up in an insensible condition and brought to his home in this city where he did not recoverj consciousness until late Sunday morning Fortunately he suffered noj broken bones or internal injury but was so badly bruised that he is still confined to bed He will soon be out again howevc and it is hoped will suffer no per manent inconvenience from his fall Rev Doctor Taylor The Trustees and Faculty of Georgetown College at their joint meeting last week honored Rev Taylor pastor of the Baptist Church in this city by conferring upon him the degree of Doctor of Divinity The Doctor bears his honors smilingly and his numerous friends here are highly pleased that the honor was so worthily bestowed A Franklin County Boy Dr John A Lewis of Georgetown was elected President of the Kentucky Medical Association at its meeting in Harrodsburg last week Dr Lewis is a son of the late Rev Cadwallader Lewis and nmwm was born and raised near Wood lake this county was a brave soldier during the war serving as Adjutant of the 9th Kentucky Confederate Cavalry is one of the best physicians and surgeons in the State and a Christian gentleman so the Association made no mistake in honoring him with the highest office in its gift Knights of the Maccabees A tent of the order of the Knights of the Maccabees was instituted in this city on Thursday evening of last week by Messrs Elkins and Hutchison State Organizers The order is a fraternal insurance association with the total disability feature as well as a benevolent institution The new Tent started off with about thrty
