Exchanging a volley, of shots in the chapel of the 'First Congregational church here as a climax of a 13 years' feud, former Mayor Roland W. Snow of. Oakland and Adolph Goldman, ex-convict and former Oakland crockery t. merchant, are both dead here today, each by the other's hand. The gun play began after Goldman had slashed Snow severely with a razor.

Goldman was' shot in tho forehead and killed Instantly. Snow died at the Oakland receiving hospital early today. In 19 04 Goldman was sentenced to four years in. San Quentln for shooting and seriously wounding Snow. The tragedy occurred Just as the church members began to ascemble for prayer service.

Snow had taken a seat on the aisle in the rear of the chapel when suddenly Goldman who, It is said, had been employed as a detective to trail the former mayor, entered the church, taking a seat behind Snow. Goldman engaged Snow, in conversation and suddenly slashed Snow with a razor, almost severing the chin. Snow, fled up the aisle followed by a bullet' from Goldman's revolver. Lewis was endeavoring to get at Goldman Snow suddenly turned and came toward his antagonist, moaning and swaying, with his arms crossed in front of htm. Goldman fired two more shots and then Snow straightened up, whipped out a revolver and fired twice.

One bullet struck Goldman squarely in the forehead, killing him instantly. The other penetrated his lungs. All saloons remain closed. Six arrests have been made by the soldiers, lt Is feared that resentment against Mayor Schreiver, which is still running high, may cause renewed rioting at any time. Fresh fuel was added to the Indignation of the rioters by the mayor's action in calling on the governor for state troops.

Frank Bauerwaert was hold without bond today to answer to the superior court to a charge of having murdered Mrs. Harriet Guyot of Portland, and Miss Julia Francois of The Dalles, Ore.

Bauerwaerts did not take the witness stand. Coroner Wilkins found Mrs. Guyot's body in the Cburchawalla mountains, the arms strapped at the sides.
