BE ATMS HOCKENSMITH At his home near Swallowfleld tliis county on i Friday night Mr Hocken smith aped 77 years Mr Hookonsniith was an upright uprightt I He had been in poor health for some time from the infirmities of ape but lied only been confined to his bed for about three weeks Ho was a member of Bethel Baptist Church He leaves two daughters Mrs Geo Brock and Mrs Uharles Snelliu of this county and a large ti circle of relatives and friends to mourn his death The funeral tork place from the chapel in our oemetory at oclock on Sunday afternoon the servies being conducted by Rev IC I South after which tile remains were laid away in the family lot inI the cemetery I r3 inI i HOLMES At his residence in I Eminence Ky on Tuesday Dr Samuel Holmes aged 62 years Dr Holmes was raised at La grange lived in Paducah for sev oral years but came to this city rwhoa a young man and entered into the drug business with Dr Averill Later ho purchased the drug store at the corner of Main and St Clair streets and with his partner Dr Frank Halloran did a prosperous business until the firm was dissolved by the sudden death of Dr Halloran After that he con tinued the business alone and tabout the same time ho was 1 through the influence of Hon Win Lindsay appointed Postmaster by President Cleveland and served through two terms the later under President MeK4uley His health having in tho mean 1 time become impaired he soon 1It after his retirement from ollioo sold out Isis drug store He re 1 roamed out of business for some months and then removed to Emi nence where ho again embarked in the same business and was so engaged at the time of his sudden death About eighteen or nineteen years ago he was married to Miss Kittle a Todd the youngest daughter of Capt Todd The fruit of that marriage was two children Miss Jane Todd and Master John I Holmes He leaves his wife and the two children mentioned to mourn his untimely death The remains were brought here and laid to rest in the family lot in our cemetery on Wednesday MoEWAN In this city on yes terday morning at 1 oclock Mrs A Caroline MoEwan aged 73 years Mrs MoEwan was tho widow of i tho late Mr Alex McEwan She had been in poor health for a longtime and her death came as a sweet release from suffering She was a member of tho Methodist Church and a devout Christian She leaves two sons Rev MoEwan of Pittsburg Ponn and Mr James MoEwanl of this county and five daughters I Mrs John Todd Mrs Noel Miss Mollie Miss Christine I and Miss Lizzie McEwan all of i this city to mourn her death She had a wide circle of friends who
