Symphony national debut By Blake A Samson The Star's music editor Plans are under way that could lead the Kansas City Symphony to its national television debut the first time a Kansas City orchestra would have been featured in a national TV special KCPT the Kansas City PBS affiliate will videotape the Symphony concerts Feb 6 and 7 at the Lyric Theatre for a future release nationwide on the PBS network David Welsh the director of programming and production said Monday KCPT will show the program locally in March Welsh said then we will cut it down to an hour special which will be offered to PBS The program will be produced and directed by Phillip Byrd who recently won an Emmy for a special on the Kirov Ballet fact that producing carries a lot of weight with Welsh said Although PBS
