miles southwest of Willows The two were married in the home of Mr and Mrs Van Branham of Willows May 24 1901 Following their marrii they lived most of their life the Glenn area Barham as a man (his father Marcus i was a foreman on one of the wheat ranches of Dr Hugh Glenn) recalls many events that have proved of interest as the years marched by For example during the days of notorious bad men be was on friendly terms with Cole Dalton one of the Dalton Boys who taing out in the Coming area In Glenn the Barhams owned and operated the Glenn Store for many years On Nov 14 1913 he was appointed postmaster The Glenn Post Office had come into being in 1903 The pwt office was in conjunction with the store as many village post offices still are At that time there much in Glenn Mrs Baibm recalls A store church school and several dwellings Oh yes saloon was also a part of the small hamlet a little later on She said in those days store doors never closed that is not until the last customer had gone and that could be hi the early morning horns On the days when the salmon were ruining the store stayed open all night The porch of the store was covered with fish waiting to be shipped to San Francisco she said Mrs Barham recalled that before the saloon made its advent in Glenn her husband provided transportation to Butte City where the men could drink There was a stipulated time when the driver would return to Glenn and those not 'on hand had to find their own way back Mr and Mrs Barham moved to Durham in 1952 and three years later moved to their present address on Sunset Avenue The Barhams have two eons Lafayette who makes his home with them and Pat of Codora and a daughter Mrs Huffmaster of (Heim They have three grandchildren Nancy Huffmaster Patty Huffmaster Giiiapsy and Rebecca Barham By OSWALD It JAMES JACOBY One thing' that distinguishes the good rubber bridge player is that he is willing to overbid a trifle on his way to game He knows that if you wait for sure things you won't get set often but you aren't going to be a winner A match print player would probably drop the bidding on today's hand at two spades He would reason that a three spade bid might change his potential plus score to a minus and by passing at two spades he would not get a really bad match print score even though gafcne could be made Tommy Tailer of New York never plays match points He reasoned that there might well be a good play for four spades and that games don't grow on buShes so he rebid to three spades and hoped for the best Wingate Bixby who sat North had already made two bids with his eight high card prints but he liked his hand He had four trumps queen small of Tommy's first bid suit and confidence in his dummy play Actually the play too jack of trumps care of East's ten' at trick one and he decided that his best line of play would be to get rid -of the trumps He led bad a trump West put up Ms ace and played a third trump Then Tommy went after the club suit Since It broke 4-2 be had to use last trump to ruff out West's jack of clubs This left him with three possible losers in hearts and nothing to do but lead a heart from dummy and hope for the best East ducked the heart lead and Tommy ducked also He still had time to play up to his king of hearts again and there was always the chance that West might make a mistake West dkuivHe shifted to diamond but Tommy took ace led a heart row with Ms king and scored game and rubber GOP Women's Club To Hold Fund Raiser PARADISE (E-R) The Feather River Republican Women's Club is sponsoring a fund raising
