Gannett Westchester April 25, 1986 A Section Howard W. Page, former Exxon executive, dies at 79 Howard W. Page, a former Exxon executive who played a key role in securing and maintaining foreign oil rights in the Middle East, died of acute leukemia Monday at his home in Mamaroneck. He was 79. Mr.

Page worked 41 years at the New Je oil company and gained renown in petroleum circles for leading a team that re lished oil rights for Western companies in Iran in 1954, after the overthrow of a socialist government that had nationalized the oil industry. In the 1950s and '60s, he was responsible for maintaining the interests of Exxon then the Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey in Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries. Mr. Page was born July 18, 1906, in Berkeley, the son of Alexander Griffith and Gertrude Wheeler Page.

He grew up in Berkeley and Los Angeles. He attended Stanford University. After graduating in 1927, he studied at the Massachusetts Insti- tute of Technology, where in 1929 he earned a master's degree in chemical engineering. Mr. Page first worked at a Texas subsidiary of the Standard Oil Co.

of New Jersey, then called Esso, and later moved to Esso's Research and Engineering division in Bayway, N.J. In the mid-1930s, Mr. Page moved to the company's Paris office, which is the headquarters of its European operations. It was in Paris, in 1937, that he married the British-born Eileen Elizabeth Willan. After the German occupation of France in 1940, he moved to New York office, then served in Washington, D.C., with the Federal Petroleum Administration for War from 1942 to 1945.

Returning to Esso after the war, he headed the firm's London office, which handled all Middle Eastern operations. In 1951, Mohammed Mossadegh, the Iranian prime minister, nationalized his country's oil industry and Dr. Socrates Constantinou, psychiatrist, dies at 51 Dr. Socrates Constantinou, an assistant professor at New York Hospital- Cornell Medical Center in White Plains and a 17-year White Plains resident, died Tuesday of stomach cancer at White Plains Hospital Medical Center. He was 51.

Dr. Constantinou, of 111 Barton Road, was an assistant professor at New York-Cornell since 1976. And since 1973, was the consulting psychiatrist at the State University of New York, College at Purchase. He was the staff psychiatrist at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville from 1971 to 1974, and at the Linden Hill School of the Jewish Board of Guardians in Mount Pleasant from 1975 to 1977. From 1974 to 1976, he was a clinical instructor of psychiatry at New York Hospital- Cornell Medical Center.

Dr. Constantinou received a bachelor's degree from Hunter College in Manhattan and a master's degree in biology from Indiana University. He received his medical degree from the University of Athens (Greece) in 1965 and his New York state medical license in 1972. He did his medical internship at Brooklyn-Cumberland Medical Center and his psychiatric residency at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Cen- Harley M. Griffiths, Harley Morris Griffiths of Larchmont, a watercolorist who painted scenes from Nantucket, and communities along the shore of the Long Island Sound, died of heart failure Thursday at New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center.

He was 76. "When you paint, you try to top the masters," he said in a 1975 interview. A reviewer once described his work as of "tidal flats and wetlands, of seagulls fussily goosestepping through beach debris, of trees and grasses bending to Nantucket winds, of rainy reflection in brick sidewalks, of clouds spread anxiously over scudding sailboats and of climbing roses hugging the mellow greys of 'Sconset cottages." Mr. Griffiths exhibited his work at galleries in Larchmont, Pelham, New York City and Nantucket. His shows included the annual show of the Greenwich Art Association and the 50th annual show of the Hudson Valley Art Association.

Born in Brooklyn to Harley Mor- James B. Scott James B. Scott a lifelong White Plains resident and 19-year veteran of the White Plains Police Department, died of a brain hemorrhage at his home Wednesday. He was 46. Mr.

Scott was born Nov. 18, 1939, the son of James B. Scott Sr. of Port Chester and Rose Llewellyn Scott Lawrence of Monroe, N.Y. Mr.

Scott was a graudate of White Plains High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1966 and was a Vietnam veteran. He received an honorable discharge ter in White Plains from 1969-72. He did a fellowship in college psychiatry at Columbia University in 1972-73.

He was president of the Metropolitan College Mental Health Association in 1982-83; president of the Westchester district branch of the American Psychiatric Association in 1979-80; program chairman of the APA in 1977-78; and secretary of the APA from 1973 to 1976. He was an executive board member of the Mental Health Association of Westchester since 1982 and a member of the Community Services Board of the Department of Mental Health of Westchester County from 1981 to 1985; the education committee of the Mental Health Association in 1978; the Westchester County Medical SocieNew York State Medical Society; and the New York State Society for Adolescent Psychiatry. He was born April 16, 1935, to Emmanuel and Agnes Constantinou in New York City. He was married in 1962. He and his wife, Aliki, moved to White Plains in 1969.

He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Maria, both of the home address; and his brothers, Mike of Fairlawn, N.J., and Gus of Athens, Greece. watercolorist, dies ris and Mary Mulcahy Griffiths, he attended the Pratt Institute and the National Academy of Design in New York City. On July 10, 1943, he and Elizabeth Maher were married. For more than 25 years, he was a commercial artist and illustrator for B. Altman Co.

He retired in 1975 and became a free-lance artist. Mr. Griffiths lived in Larchmont for 40 years and spent most of his summers on Nantucket. In Larchmont, he was a parishioner of St. Augustine's Church.

Mr. Griffiths was a member of the Nantucket Artists Association and the National Arts Club of New York. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Donna Lamont of Larchmont, Elizabeth Capuano of Belvedere, Angela Griffiths of Washington, D.C., and Monica Brenton of Marblehead, Mass; his son, Harley Griffiths Jr. of Mamaroneck; and nine grandchildren. 19-year White Plains in 1966 with the rank of sergeant.

Mr. Scott had been a White Plains policeman for 19 years. He was a detective at the time of his death. During his career, Mr. Scott served in the patrol, detective, traffic and warrant units.

He was active in, sports programs sponsored by the White Plains Police Boys Club and Girls Club. Working in New York, Mr. Page continued managing Esso's Middle Eastern interests as a company director from 1954 to 1960. He was vice president from to 1966 and executive vice president from 1966 until his retirement in 1970. "He was a very smart man, and had brilliant ideas for writing something that would satisfy both parties in negotiation," said Smith Turner, a longtime colleague of Mr. 1 Page's.

"He had infinite patience and In 1955, Mr. Page joined the board of trustees of the American University in Beirut. He was chairman of the board from 1973 to 1976. "Mr. Page led the university through some of its most difficult years," said Robert G.

Berry, a Gerald Gerald Kornberg, Kornberg Mount Vernon resident for the past 31 years, died Saturday at Mount Vernon Hospital. He was 74. Mr. Kornberg was born Oct. 4, 1911, in New York City to Morris and Fannie (Drucker) Kornberg.

He had been employed by B. Altman and Co. in White Plains for 10 years and previously owned an John M. Baynes John M. Baynes, a former chauffeur and longtime Mount Vernon resident, died Wednesday at Mount Vernon Hospital after a long illness.

He was 69. Mr. Baynes was born Sept. 10, 1916, in Leasburg, N.C., the son of Archie and Dora Snipes Baynes. He had lived in New Rochelle for a short time before moving to Mount Vernon about 25 years ago.

Mr. Baynes was a chauffeur until 1977 with more than 30 years' service. He then worked for the South Side Cab Co. and Delta Cab both of Mount Vernon. Mr.

Baynes was a member of Local 456 of the Teamsters union. He was a former member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in North Carolina. In 1941, he was married in New Rochelle to Mary Cox, who died in 1978. Mr. Baynes survived by a son, Robert of Columbus, two daughters, Gloria Mount Vernon and Joyce of Yonkers; two brothers, James of Washington, D.C., and Collin of Yonkers; three sisters, Ester Mitchell of Blanche, N.C., Annie Mae Stewart of Mount Vernon and Minnie Toraine of Valhalla; three grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild.

Louise Smith Louise Smith, a retired milliner and longtime New Rochelle resident, died Wednesday at New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center after a brief illness. She was 95. She was born April 7, 1891, in Camden, S.C., the daughter of Richard and Isabell Rogers. A New Rochelle resident for about 30 years, she had lived in New York City after leaving Camden, where she attended public schools. Mrs.

Smith retired in 1956 from Macy's in Manhattan. She had been married twice. Mrs. Smith is survived by two nieces, Sylvia Moose of Mount Vernon and Sybil Hall of Middleburg, Va. policeman, dies burgh.

He was a member of Bright Hope Masonic Lodge 62 in Greenburgh. Mr. Scott was also a member the Westchester-Rockland Guardians, an organization for black police officers, and of the Westchester Policeman's Benevolent Association. In addition to his parents, Mr. Scott is survived by a daughter, Toni of Greenburgh; a son, James T.

This notice may be by mail spokesman at the university's New York office, noting that Mr. Page's tenure coincided with the beginning of the Lebanese civil war. In 1976, Mr. Page helped found the American University in' Beirut Foundation, a fund-raising organization. He was a member of the Near East Foundation and the Council on Foreign Relations.

He was decorated in 1976 by the government of Lebanon with the Order of Cedars in recognition of his contributions to education in Lebanon. Mr. Page and his wife moved to Mamaroneck from London in 1951. Mrs. Page was active in the Mamaroneck Garden Club and -won numerous prizes for her flower arrangements.

The couple liked to travel and visited most of the countries of the Middle East, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon and Iraq. Mrs. Page died in 1984. Mr. Page is survived by a brother, Griffith of Los Angeles, a sister, Eleanor McKee of Woodside, Calif.

The couple moved to Yonkers in 1962, and to the Town of Rye, now Rye Brook, in 1973. Anthony DiNunzio Anthony DiNunzio, a truck driver and longtime New Rochelle resident, died Thursday in New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center after a long illness. He was 72. Mr. DiNunzio was born June 9, 1913, in Mount Vernon, the son of John and Benedetta Narcella DiNunzio.

Mr. DiNunzio lived in New Rochelle for 25 years after living briefly in Yonkers and Pelham. A truck driver for several companies, he worked for many years for the Naclerio Contracting Co. in Preston Jackson Preston Jackson, a former longtime Yonkers resident, died April 8 at Dobbs Ferry Hospital. He was 79.

Mr. Jackson was born May 28, 1906, in Nash County, N.C., to John and Addie Jackson. He lived in Yonkers for 40 years until moving to St. Cabrini Nursing Home in Dobbs Ferry two years ago. Before his retirement, Mr.

His wife, Ida, whom he married in 1933 in Wilson, N.C., survives. Also surviving are his son, John Walker, of Rochester, N.Y.; his daughter, Alice Taylor, of Mount Vernon; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. SCOTT, James B. Jr. April 23, 1986.
