Giving Brandon top assistance offensively were Halfback Larry Mitchell, who accounted for 121 yards rushing; Halfback Curtis McLaughlin, 53 yards pushing and Halfback Allen Clark with 38 yards rushing. Guilford will test the questionable knee of quarterback Jimmy Williams against Hampden Sydney. Williams led the conference in total offense in 1963. He injured his knee late last season and missed spring practice.

Fullback Tom Slater will be the big run- the lead in the second quarter when Alvis Hodges hauled in a pass from Wayne Slaughter on a 50-yard touchdown play but then some fancy broken field running by Gil Lindsey put the visitors out front in the third period. As it turned out, the 90- and 30-yard gallops by Lindsey set the stage for the fourth-quarter heroics of Mitchell and Poteat. With about three minutes to go, Mitchell broke loose on a 50-yard run, finally being hauled down on the South Stokes 2. On the next play, he dove over the goal line to tie the score at 13-all. On the extra point try, Poteat drove through the South Stokes line for the vinning point.
