The murderer of Atlas Taylor, of Northampton county, has not yet been discovered. He who wears extremely pointed shoes these days are something like a year out fashion.

Heliotrope is the most fashionable all colors this season, from men's scarf's women's gowns. The shoofly train on the Wilmington road now leaves here at o'clock and returns here at 10 at night. The Board of town commissioners will hold its first regular meeting of the new fiscal year on Tuesday night. Train number 14, which has been leaving here going north at 6:40, now leaves at 5:10 in the morning. The next term of the Superior court this county will be held on the lGth May, Judgo Brown presiding.

Shad and rock are both plentiful now, and the fishermen are happy. Tho largest rock caught hero thus far weighed 40 pounds. It is said that a good cure for obesity never to eat of but one dish at a meal. Eat as much as you please, but let it be only of one dish, and you will grow thin. A roan who had been bitten by a mad og in Northampton county passed through here Monday going to Scotland Neck to have a mad stone applied to the wound.

J. L. Williams informed us a few days ago that many negroes in his section of the county who have herctotore been members of the Alliance are leaving the order. This is very good evidence that the negroes have no idea of leaving the Republican party and going into the Third party. They are afiaid Alliance affiliations will be brought to bear on them to leave the Republican party.

A Frog in a Hail Stone. During the storm Friday there was considerable hail near hereaud a farmer who came to town reported a most singular phenome non. An unusually large batl stone fell in his yard, which he picked up, and, to his great surprise, he discovered a tiny frog imbedded in the ice. He quickly liberated the little hopper, and to his still greater consternation, the frog hopped gaily away. Who can longer doubt that 'do sun do move," or that it occasionally rains frogs? COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION. At a meeting of tho Exceutivo committee of the Democratic party held in Halifax, on tho 15th it was ordered that Thursday, the 12th day of May, 1892, bo appointed as the date of the Township conventions, and Monday, the lGth day of said month, at 12 o'clock, M. be appointed as the date and time for holding tho county convention for the purpose of sending delegates to the State and Congressional conventions and nomi nating candidates for the county offices. Now, by virtue of the authority vested in me as chairman of said committee, I hereby call said conventions for the dates above named. The Democrats of the county are here by notified and requested to meet at their respective polling places in the township of their residonco on the date above named for holding the TowDship convention for the purpose of selecting delegates to the said county conventioD) and for the election of a Township Executive committee consisting of five members.

The several township committees will meet immediately after the adjournment of the county convention for the purpose of electing a County Executive committee for the ensuing two years. Halifax county is entitled to seventeen delegates in the State and fifty delegates the Congressional convention. I. E. Green, Chair.

And said committees so elected shall elect one of its members as chairman, who shall preside at all committee meetings. The several township executive com mittor shall convene at tho meetings of the several county conventions, or at any time and place that a majority of them may elect, and shall elect a county executive committee, to consist of not less than five members, omi of whom shall bo des ignated as chairman, who shall preside at all of tbo said committeo meetings.

In caso there shall bo a failure on the part of any township to elect its executive committee for the period of thirty days, the county executive committee shall appoint said commiitce from the Democrat' ie voters of said township. The members of tho township com mittees shall elect to any vacancy occurr ing in said committees. The township conventions shall elect their delegates to represent the townships in the county conventions from the voters of the respective townships, which dele-pates, or such of them as shall attend, shall vote the full Democratic strength of their respective townships on all questions that may come before tho said county conventions. In case no convention shall be held in any township in pursuance of said call, or no election shall be made, the township executive committee shall appoint such delegates. Each township shall be entitled to cast in the county convention one vote for every twenty-five Democratic votes, and one vote fur fractions of fifteen Democratic votrs cast in tho last gubernatorial election: Provided, That every township shall be entitled to cast ut least one vote, and each township may send as many delegates as it nr.iy see fit.

The chairmen of township committees shall preside at all township conveutiuns In their absence any other member of said committees may preside. In cases where all the township execu tive committees arc required to meet for the purpose of electing county executive committees, said meetings shall be deemed to have a quorum when a majority of such townships shall be represented in said meetings. Such delegates (or alternates of absent delegate) as may be present at any Deuiucratie convention shall be allowed to cast the whole vote to which their town ship or oourjty may be entitled.

In all cuoventioos provided for by thi; system, after a vote is cast there shall be no change in such vote until the fina result of the ballot sbalt be announced by th chairman of said convention. 3. All Democratic executive committees shall have the power to till any vacancy incurring in tueir respective nuuiea. 4. The chairmen of the different coun ty conventions shall certify the list delegates and alternates to the different dial riot and State conventions, and certified list of said delegate aud alternates to the State inventions shall be seut tn the Secretary of the State Central torn mittee.
