Here, at last is a tuner whose sonic performance is limited only by the quality of program material played at the broadcast station. KENWOOD engineers refer to this new model as a "balanced tuner." since each section, from front-end. through IF's to multiplex has been designed for optimum operation singly and in conjunction with its companion circuitry. by Carolyn Oskswell Sports Writer Tve never met a person who had more of a love for the game That's what coach Kip Ward says about Anson Dorrance, the varsity soccer team's captain this year. Dorrance was raised abroad, and began his soccer career at his high school in Switzerland, where he played center halfback for three years.

He attended St. Mary's in San Antonio, Texas for a semester during his freshman year, where he was the only American on the starting lineup of the soccer team, but transferred to UNC during the second semester. Dorrance came to UNC because I was raised abroad but I always came back here whenever 1 could, so he has always considered North Carolina as "home. Because he transfereed from another college, Dorrance was ineligible to play soccer until his junior year, so in the meantime he joined the rugby club. During his junior year, Anson joined the varsity squad where he played on the inside line, and made the second All-Atlantic Coast Conference team.

Anson is allowed to play this year, as a post-senior, because of his earlier ineligibility as a sophomore, and will probably remain at center half. Although Anson is "interested in all sports, he says he chose soccer because of his size. Since his sophomore year, he feels that "I've learned to play better, and I have developed a lot of skills since coming to UNC. Carolina has played a lot of tough schools since Dorrance joined the team two years ago, but he feels that the "most monumental game" was UNCs 2-1 win over Maryland last year. Maryland, as a team that many thought would be nationally ranked, was a KT-8005 Anson Dorrance with ball games because of our aggressiveness." real thrill to beat.

Anson, like all the other Carolina players, is looking forward to this year as the most exciting yet. "The team is the best we've had since I've been here," he says and he feels that Carolina has a lot of skill. "Of course, in any given game, there is always the possibility that we might lose," he added, "but 1 think we can win a lot of crucial Dorrance is engaged to Miss M'liss Gary, a professional ballet dance, and for the future, is considering "taking a crack at law school." Maybe Anson Dorrance isn't the biggest guy on the soccer team this year, but as Coach Ward put it, "He's a first class soccer player he plays with his heart." State will go with Harvey Willis at tight end and Don Buckcy at wide receiver. East Carolina will start senior Carl' Summcrell at quarterback. Carlester Crumpler at tail back and Don Schink at fullback will round out the Pirate's backfield. Vic Wilfore at split end and Stan Eure at flanker will enjoy starting berths for ECU. North Carolina State University opens its 1973 football season Saturday night at 7:30 against the Pirates of East Carolina University.

State will be trying to shake a four year jinx Saturday, as they haven't won an opening game since defeating Wake Forest by a 10-6 score back in 1968. Coach Lou Holtz anticipates a hard-fought contest from ECU. "ECU is a very physical football team and a team that is very capable of beating North Carolina State," he said earlier this week at a Raleigh Sports Ciub luncheon. The Wolf pack coach also noted that State is preparing to "throw the ball a lot" against East Carolina in an effort to repeat last year's 38-16 triumph over the Pirates. Holtz illumfhafed the press corps" with ihe" fact that State's kicking has been "consistently inconsistent" and pointed toward State's lack of experience at linebacker as a potential problem in 1973.

Despite these difficulties NCSU has set as their goal an ACC championship and Holtz believes the squad is capable of accomplishing the feat. The Wolfpack will go with sophomore Bruce Shaw at quarterback, junior Ronald Hooks at fullback, and senior Willie Burden 111 UU JL cranes oem .1 I .1 I II II Mil ll 128 E.
