ABSHER, Cashier. in behalf of the extension of the railroad to Jefferson Was held at North Wilkesboro last Thursday, and was very largely attended. Definite steps svere taken looking to the build ing of the road, and amount was guaranteed to have the survey made at once. It is estimated that two-thirds of turnpike bed can be used to the foot of the mountain, about 17 miles. It is estimated that this part of the road can be built for two thousand per mile.

It is intended to have matter ready for work at early date so that the State convicts can be utilized as soon as they are through in Ashe, which will be Deposits $70,000. Assets $90,000. corn; with five thousand more to follow at once. Rev. R.

Joe Prevette, who has been attending school at Wake For est arrived last week to spend vacation here. This is an 'important move. It is a case of necessity. The mountain people are going to have a southern outlet. If they don't get it by Wilkesboro, they'll go by Elkin or some where else.

Owing to the fact that both the Circuit Judges and the Judge of the District Court of the United States for this District are now engaged in the Circuit Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit now sitting at Asheville, and will be so engaged until the 1st day of June, 1907, and will not, on this accnunt, be able to attend the regular term, of the Gir cuit and District courts, to he held at Wilkesboro beginning on the 4th Monday in May, 3907: It is therefore ordered: That the said May Term at Wilkesboro be adjourned to the Third (3rd) Monday in September, 1907. All parties bound to the May Term, aforesaid, are required to be present on the said Third Monday of September, 1907, and the jurors and witnesses for said May Term will attend at the same time The.Clerk at Wilkesboro will enter this order and gTve notice in one or more newspapers published in Wilkes county; also in one newspaper, if such be published, in each of the counties of Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany. a beautiful and charming spectacle of "Fairy Land" will be presented at Trogdon's opera house Monday and Tuesday nights, June 3rd and 4th, under the auspices of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. About 150 persons boys, girls, young ladies and young gentlemen, will take part in the presentation. Mr J. E. Owens, of New York, the author of the play, is at North Wilkesboro with his family and will personally direct the presentation.

Mrs. Phillip Walsh, in Beaver Creek township, died last week. Her baby, three months old died a few days before her death. Mr. F.

D. Meadows, of Poors Knob, and Miss Edna Eidson, of Elkin, were married 2ast week. Onr hearty con gratulations are theirs. The ice cream supper given at the Presbyterian church lawn last Thursday night was quite a success. About $26.00 was realized.

Mr. A. J. Taylor, of "Maple Springs, was one of our pleasant visitors last week. He says that they had a considerable frost there last week.

Rev. Mr. Horner, the new Brbtist pastor, will arrive this week and will conduct services at Baptist church next Sunday morniug and night. Ex-Sheriff James Hamlin, of Fad kin county passed thro last week taking his four daughters home from Lenoir where they have been attending school.
