J. P. Ware spent Monday night in Washington. Mrs. W.

R. Bond returned Monday from an extended trip to Norfolk and Virginia Beach. Miss Clifford Croom went to Golds-boro Monday. Misses Jennie and Lottie Tillar have returned to their home In Emporia after visiting relatives. Dr.

M. Gary, J. Brickell and Parker, was busy at work st the court house Monday on, the pen sion applications, of the old Confederates. The number of pensioners is greatly increased under the new law, and in consequence the allowances in some of the classes will be reduced. Littleton.

Two weeks ago our agent visited Littleton. Littleton, being North Carolina's great health resort, is one of our most important towns. Ite people have long since learned the art of it is partly this which makes it so important among our summer resorts. While there, the visitor can find no better entertain ment than at Hotel Bon Air. Its great hospital' ty, Ood fare, and shadj verandas make it a delight to visitors.

Death of Mies Nancy Wiiht. Miss Nancy Wright died at the resi dence of her brother, Mr. Junius Wright near Spring Hill, Wednesday night, July 31st, aged about 55 years Tbe remains were Interred "Thursday Aug. 1st, in the Baptist cemetery, Rev. M.

L. Kesler conducting the excretes. She was apparently in usual health until suppertime Wednesday evening. She then made some slight oomplaint and about 1 o'clock she went down stairs for a drink of water. Returning to her room it was found that she was ill and she aied in a few minutes.

She was a good woman, a joy in the household of which she was a part and her sudden death came as a great shock to her lavnily. Death of Mr. Grayson Eutts, Mr. Grayson M. Butts died at the home of his father, Mr.

Joseph Butte, near Halifax, Wednesday July 31, aged 17 years; His remains were interred ia Halifax Thursday August 1, Rev. G. Grady conducting' the burial service." Mr. Butts had been studying pharmacy for some time in the drug store of Mr. John N.

Brown, 3f Halifax, and was a consistent member of the Methodist church. "He was the finest young man I have ever known," said Mr. John N. Brown Monday. His death cast a gloom over Halifax and community.

Monday the county cornmiesions ac cepted a new bid for the $8,000 worth of bonds which they sold in June. The purchase was made by an Atlanta firm in June, but later they -declined to take them on the ground that they were illegally The bid which the commissioners accepted Monday was by Rudolph Keybolte of Cincinnati. The purchase is for the bonds at accrued interest until the bonds are issued and a premium of $560. There were other bidders but lower than Keybotle Co.
