Ptgc 4 THE HERALD, Provo, Utah Sunday, May 23, 1971 Nephi Native Nelson Funeral t' Provo Man's Father Dies In Salt Lake Gabbitcis Funeral On Tuesday KENAI, ALASKA Lynn Raymond Gabbitas, 23, Kenai, Alaska, died Thursday in Kenai of injuries suffered in an automobile accident. He was a native of Spanish Fork, being born July 4, 1947, a son of Thomas Floyd and Ruth Baxter Gabbitas. He married Esther Hutchings on July 1, 1966, in Provo. He attended schools in Mapleton and in Provo, and worked most of his life on construction. At the time of his death, he was a truck driver and welder.

A member of the LDS Church, he was active in Scouting. In 1967 he and his wife moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he worked for a utility company and was retiuiung from work at the time of the accident. His hobbies were hunting and fishing. Survivors include his widow; two sons, Thomas Floyd Gabbitas II and Lynn Raymond Gabbitas both of Kenai; parents, Provo; grandmother, Mrs. Florilla Baxter, Provo; five brothers and one sister.

1 MISS PENNSYLVANIA, Michele McDonald, a foot 8 inch tall dark blond from Butler, was crowned Miss USA Saturday night by cdtgoing title holder, Debbie Shelton. She will represent the United States in the Miss Universe pageant to be held in Miami Beach, in July. She was selected from field of 51 contestants. Local Government Leaders Support Sales Tax Hike Rites Set in Provo Monday CARLIN, M. Koontz Nelson, 47, Carlin, died Fridciy morning at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City.

She was bom Oct 28, 1923, in Oarfcrvillo, Ark. She married Hays W. ICing in 1941, and they were lata: divorced. She then married Arnold G. Nelson on Sept.

18, 1963, in Auston, Nev. Mrs. Nelson attended schools in Clarksv Ule and after her first marriage i noved to Green River, Wyo. She moved to Elko, in 1934 an then to Carlin. She was a member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include her husband, Carlin; one son and two daughters, Glen G. Nelson, Mrs. Ernest (Glenda) Banks, Carlin; Mrs. Peggy Wilson, Ulysses, daughter-in-law, Mrs. Etennis (Greer) King; five grandchildren; her mother, Mrs.

Kate Koontz, Clarksville; five brothers and two sisters, Archie B. iKoontz and Pauline Wadley, Tulare, Seth, Jay W. and Gene Koontz, all of Detroit, Duane Koontz, little Rock, Helen Koontz, Los Calif. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 pjn. in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel of Provo where friends may call Monday prior to senices.

Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery. SALT LAKE CITY Samuel Hinton Richards, 87, 63 N. 9th Salt Lake City, died at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City Thursday of causes incident to age. He was the father of Herman Samuel Richards of Provo. He was born Feb. 27, 18S4, in Virgin, Utah, a son of Ianthus Parker and Agnes Elizabeth Hinton Richards.

He married Jenny Sofia Larsen on March 9, 1904, in the Logan Temple. He was an Elder in the LDS Church. Mr. Richards lived in Ogden from 1889 to 1904 where he attended school. He was a fireman on the Southern Pacific Railroad.

In 1908 he moved to Mink Creek, and filed on a homestead. He also was a carpenter there. For 20 years he was employed by the Utah Power and Light Co. in both Idaho and in Utah. He was maintenance man operator at the Oneida Power Plant, superintendent of the Wheelon Plant and shift foreman at the Jordan Steam Plant in Salt Lake City.

He was later employed by the Utah State Road Commission as a builder. Survivors include his wiuow; four sons and two daughters, Herman Samuel Richards, Provo; Hsrbert Kenneth Richards, Santa Barbara, Whitney Parker Richards, Los Angeles; Howard Arthur Richards and Mrs. Jack W. (Muriel) Holt, both Salt Lake City; Mrs. Carol (Dorothy) Stay, Montebello, 19 grandchildren; 36 greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild; four brothers and one sister, Ianthus Leo Richards and Alton Franklin Richards, both of Ogden; Arthur Sylvester Richards, Cedar City; Mrs.

E. Arnold (Regina) Slater, Slaterville, Bernard Maurice Richards, Sun City, Ariz. Clyde Remains Critical After Stroke SALT LAKE CITY (UPI) -Former Gov. George Dewey Clyde, 72, remained Saturday in critical condition at LDS Hospital for the second day after suffering a stroke. A hospital spokesman would not elaborate on the condition of the former chief executive, who led the Beehive State from 1957 to 1965, but said Clyde remained in the hospital's intensive care room. Clyde, who is to celebrate his 73rd birthday on July 21, was taken into the hospital early Friday morning. Clyde was elected governor in 1956 after a distinguished career as an engineer whose specialty was water resourcedevelopment Born into a pioneer Utah family, the former governor is known for his controversial veto of a 1959 Sunday Closing Law, which enjoyed strong legislative support.

Painter was born Jan. 28, 1909, to Henry and Anna Norman Painter. He was an active member of the LDS Church. For 25 years he had resided in Ogden wheir he was employed by the Utah General Defense Depot. He was a veteran of World War II.

Albie Hansen Rites Set In Salt Lake SALT LAKE CITY FiLieral services for Albie Myrl Hansen, 72, 998-8th Salt Lake City, who died Friday in a Salt Lake City hospital, will be held Monday at 11 ajn.

3, 1898, in Fillmore, a daughter of Joshua Everett and Mary Jane Bourne Nichols. She married Lars Hansen on Aug. 9, 1916, in Fillmore; the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Mrs. Hansen had been a waitress at the LDS Hospital cafeteria.

Survivors include her husband, Salt Lake City; two sons and four daughters, Lars Jay Hansen, Sandy; Even Hansen and Mrs. Donald (Betty) Nelson, both Salt Lake City; Mrs. Petri, Wallsburg; Mrs. Wallace (Arlie) Nelson, Riverton; Mrs. Donald (Laura) Patey, Murray; 17 grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Wells Nichols and Josie Williams, both Salmon, David Nicoles, Oasis, Millard County; Mrs.

The English-language daily said the Russian instructors paid "handsome tributes" to the Ceylonese pilots' ability to master intricacies of the MIGs. was born Dec. 8, 1836, in Tooele, a daughter of George Edwin and Martha Taylor Little. She married Arthur Eugene Hanks on Dec. 30, 1906, in Haden, Ida. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple.

He died Jan. 26, 1963. She was active in the LDS Church, residing in the Manavu Ward. Survivors include two sons and two daughters, Ray E. Hanks, Orem; Lincoln Hanks, Salt Lake MATTIE HANKS City; Mrs.

Mrs. Hafen died Wednesday in St. George after a long illness. She had attended Brigham Young University. She was born Jan.

16, 1894, in Toquerville, a daughter of Andrew F. and Althea Sylvester Gregerson. She married Guy Hafen on Dec. 16, 1917, in the Salt Lake Temple. Mrs.

Hafen grew up in Pintura, but attended school in St. George, where she was a graduate of high school. She received her degree from University of Utah and was a school teacher for many years. She was active in the LDS Church. Mrs.

Hafen especially supported Dixie College from which each of her eight children was graduated. Survivors include her husband, St. George; five sons and three daughters, Dr. Earl Hafen, Salinas, Ralph J. Hafen, Dr.

Norman E. Hafen and Richard B. Hafen, all of Salt Lake City; Gregerson H. Hafen, Hagerman, Mrs. A.M.

Burial in the Provo City Cemetery. I V-X 1 i I ()lpin PEARL GAMMON Pearl Gammon Of Provo Dies at 89 Pearl Carter Gammon. 89. Provo, died Friday of causes incident to age at a local rest home. She was born July 20, 1881, in Provo, a daughter of Franklin and Christina Mc-Daniel Carter.

She married Thomas W. Gammon on Nov. 18, 1897, in Pro vo, and he died July 28, 1951. She received her education in the Provo schools and worked in the Knight Wollen Mills in Provo. She was also a nurse.

She was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist Her hobbies tere quilting, rug making and gardening. Survivors include one son and one daughter, Reed Gammon, Provo; Mrs. S. Wayne (Velda) Beaman, Houston, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Almeda Gammon, Provo; 12 grandchildren; 26 greatgrandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Tessie Gammon, Provo; Mrs.

Zena Elizabeth Cunningham, Los Angeles. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 ajn. in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel of Provo. Friends may call at the mortuary Sunday from 6 to 8 pjn. and Monday prior to services.

Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Spanish Fork Native Dies SPANISH FORK-Haze! Argyle Arnold, 85, died at a Glendale, hospital of causes incident to age on Thursday. She was born in Spanish Fork on April 4, 1886, to Benjamin and Jane Robertson Argyle. She married Orson Willard Arnold in 1915. He died Jan.

1, 1970. Mrs. Arnold was a member of the LDS Church. In 1946, the couple moved to California where she had since resided. She was educated in Spanish Fork schools and at Brigham Young University.

She also attended Keister College in Ogden. Survivors include three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Robert (Helpn) Speck, Mrs. Jack (Jane) Jefferies and Mrs. Darwin (Rosemary) Knight, all of Glendale; Benjamin A.

Arnold, Rawlings, Ernest A. Arnold, Sinclair, nine grandchildren; nine greatgrandchildren; one sister, Afton Argyle, Glendale. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a jn. at the Linde Mortuary in Spanish Fork where friends may all tonight from 7 to 9 o'clock and Monday from 10 ajn. until time of services.

Burial will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery. Springville Man, 81 Dies SPRINGVILLE Gilbert A. Johnson, 81, 788 E. Center, Springvilb, died Friday, after a long illness. He was an active church and civic leader.
