Allen, aged 53 years, died in a Washington hospital on last Friday. The remains were shipped to Hendersonville where interment will be made in Oakdale cemetery, time being unknown at this writing.

Mr. Allen was found in an unconscious condition in his hotel, entrance having been forced to his room after his failure to make his appearance for a few days. He had no papers of identification and his location was made after his body is understood to have been turned over to city authorities. Mrs. Allen, knowing that her husband was in Washington and not being able to hear from him, asked a friend to locate him.

Surviving are the widow and the following three children: Miss Lillie Graham Allen, Laurens, S. Walter Allen, on a transport; and little boy, Jackie. The following sisters survive: Mrs. H. F.

Several years ago he did a big mercantile business at Horse Shoe. Later he was county auditor, previous to which service he was in the tax callector's office. For 14 months before his death Mr. Allen was store manager at Camp Humphries, Va. Mr.

Allen was a man of many friends. He was very friendly and congenial and was notably generous and loyal to his friends. Mr. Allen was home on a visit in December. BRITT-WEAVER AFTERMATH There is quite a humorous aftermath to the Britt-Weaver contest for a seat in congress.

At least it is humorous to the onlooker but quite serious for the stakeholders. The story goes that there were many bets in the district and a few in Hendersonville as to the outcome of the 1916 election. Weaver went on and took his seat and the stakeholders despite the protests of those betting on the strength of Britt turned over the money to the apparent winners. Congress recently seated Britt and now it is said that there are in Hendersonville some stakeholders who don't happen to be holding the stakes and this to the tune of $150. Since it is illegal to bet the situation presents an interesting side but one of those having up a nice sum of $75 on the outcome is reported as saying that if he is not able to collect what he put up and the other $75 in addition that he will be game in working the roads with the other fellows, both better and stakeholder.

MR. WOOD BUYS RUSHER FARM Joseph E. Wood has purchased from J. A. Rusher the farm of 1,000 acres on the Crab Creek road.

This farm is equipped with one of the best barns anywhere in this section. Mr. Wood has three tenants on the farm and it is likely that a company will be organized for stocking the farm with hogs and cattle, for which it is said to be admirably adapted. Rutherford Road Bonds Validated Henderson county has no more occasion to worry over Rutherford's seeming delinquency to build its part of the Hendersonville-Charlotte highway. The commissioners didn't issue bonds after they were voted owing, it is stated by the Rutherfordton Sun, to some slight irregularity, which has been removed by a special act of the legislature, authorizing issuance of $18,515 of bonds for completion of the highway in which Henderson county is very much interested by reason of the fact that this is the main inlet to this county from eastern and central Carolina.
