Real By Joe McGuff Sports Editor COLUMBIA Alabama defeated Missouri 38-20 Saturday at Farout Field in a game of wild scoring and emotional sweeps that entertained the record crowd of 73655 and left Bear Bryant Alabama's coach looking hot weary and a bit older than his 65 years just tickled to death to get out of a perspiring Bryant said was a funny atmosphere In the morning it looked like it was going to rain Then it got hotter than an Arkansas cotton For Alabama the hottest part of the day was the second quarter The Crimson Tide dominated the first quarter and early stages of the second then watched in shock as a 17-0 lead disappeared before the rallying Tigers who scored 20 points in a span of 4 minutes 17 seconds Missouri drove 72 yards for its first touchdown Phil Bradley ran 69 yards for the second and Russ Calabrese returned an interception 30 yards for the third Thus the Tigers went leaping and shouting from the field at halftime with a three-point lead and a tidal wave of momentum hand I think of a game that turned so Bryant said at once we collapsed I think we collapsed so much physically as Said Warren Powers new head coach thought we had them on the Alabama however proved to be more resourceful than Notre Dame which was upset 3-0 by Missouri on opening Saturday of thv season Missouri still was in control of the game and emotionally in the opening minutes of the second half but then Alooaina scored on a blocked punt with 11:34 remaining in the tnird quarter Alabama scored again late in the third quarter by going 40 yards after recovering a fumble Another fumble recovery this one on the Missouri 26 led to the final touchdown of the gameonly six minutes into the fourth quarter Powers and Bryant agreed that the blocked punt was the turning point blocked punt is one of the worst things that can happen to Bryant said turning point?
