Henry Barr suffered stroke of paralysis at noon, July 30, that proved fatal, death coming to her release lat Friday morning at 3 o'clock. Uer right side was paralyzed at first, but the condition soon enveloped her entire body, and for hours before her death the only visible sign that she still lived was the faint beating of her heart. She was buried from the home just north of this city Saturday afternoon. Elder George II. Smith, of Centerville, Kansas, preached her funeral in the presence of a large crowd of friends and neighbors who hid assembled to pay the lost token of respect to the memory of one they loved.

She was buried in Elmdale ceme tery. Her old friends and neighbors following her to her last resting place. She was born in Ohio, August 6, 1841, and married to Henry liarr in Webster county, Iowa, February 15, 1866. They lived near Independence, Iowa, until 1871 when they came to Kansas and settled on the farm where she has since lived and died. She leaves a mother in Webster county, Iowa, 82 years old, who by reason of her great years was unable to be with her at the end.

Of her immediate family, her husband and seven children survive her, all living in this vicinity. She also leaves two brothers and a sister William Van- Devender, living in Linn county, Kan sas, and Daniel VanDevender and Elizabeth Jameson living in Webster county, Iowa. Mrs. Barr was for several yeors an active member of the Methodist church, but joined to the Holiness church about twenty-one years ago and lived and died an active and de voted member of that aggressive Christian organization. It was not our privilege to personally acquainted with her, but from many tongues at many times we have heard of the devotion of Mr.

and Mrs. Ban-to the tenets of their church and of their great activity in carrying forward its work. If her hope was vain ani her work futile she was still a happier and better woman because of her hope and because of the exalted character of her life work. May she enter into a reward richer nnd fuller of the 'unspeakable glory of the Master she served than she yer dreamed of achieving. A llutterlly Farm.

An English entomologist, William Whtklns, was the first to raise butterflies on a largo scale. For a dozen years: establishment which ho founded for tills purpose has furnished millions and millions of insects to pri vate coliectoru, ami Mr. Watkins himself has established at the Zoological Garden of Loul-m a very Interesting entoniologie station, where ninv he found the moat :anl.lful butterflii of the entire world. The butterfly farm of Eastbourne, near the southern coast of nnd in a place well tered from winds, covers an area of 4,000 aquare metres. It is a garden filled with flowers and rare trees and surrounded by very high trellis, nnd here flutter tit liberty ninny thousands of butterflies of various species.

From all the countries of the world the farm receives egg, which are submittal to a special mode of Incubation, Then tho caterpillars, Issuing from thes eggs, receive nourl.ihnient suitable to their evolution. A certain number of the most perfect insects are preserved reproducers, while the others are asphyxiated and mounted. Some of tho rarer Insects fetch enormous sums. f.ittimtry Kamri, "Among all tho laundry names that I've seen in New York," said a visiting laundryman from the west. That was certainly felicitous fancy that siur-gested the name of Neptune for a laundry; carrying with It, us it does, tho idea of thf ocean for a washtub, tho watere. of nil the seas to wash in, and of old Father Neptune for the laundryman. Nothing small or narrow about that; but nevertheless I like the other name better. Niagara, you know, su ,1 limitless How of fresh, clean water, constantly renewed: a purifying flood from whiih tJshiKs must come out clean and wholesome.

Now, there's a name for a that means something, and it's pot the get-up-and-get in It, too. i thought I had a p.etty good name on my laundry, bu: it's weak nnd feeble compared with tiiaM and when I pet back there I'll havo a little job iv: painter." Appendicitis among Americans is certainly Increasing and while this is probably due to the excitement and worry of American business life, it ii more often directly traceable to con tipation. Appendicitis is caused by extraneous matter entering the vermi form appendix and not by the swallowing of seeds. If the digestive organs are kept ln perfect condition so the looa is duly assimulated and the bowels move gently, at least once day, appendicitis will never develop Don't take chanoes. Regular doses of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin before meals will strengthen the organs of digestion, you appetite will be good constipation disappears and you feel better in every way Dr.

ft JR I A. REYNOLDS, The Board of Education met in regular session last Monday night and in addition to the routine business" levied a tax of 172 mills on the dollar for general purposes and 2) mills for sinking fund. This is the same as last year. Bond No. 8, which had been paid, was burned.

The contract for coal was awarded to E. Devoe, and Johnson Bros, were given the contract for the building of out houses at the old school building. The importance of teachers attending the Institute was discussed and it seems that but two of the teachers of our school feel enough interested in the work to attend. It seems to be the sentiment of the Board that some provision should be made in contracts requiring teachers to attend the Institute. The Board attempted to elect a teacher but after taking fifty two ballots adjourned to meet next Monday night when they will try and break the dead lock.

Miss Dolphin was transferred from the 4th grade to the sixth, and the new teacher will be placed in the fourth grade. 1IMY On Johanntslre many a man': but none of with the go'd Mm HIhimI Million. has been tho cause of i ml.ii'ovtuiie or good luck, r.i.;r.y names associated -reef city of South Africa lnu suffered such reverses of fortune as that of Jami Pratt, who died recently in zn Iv.iglihh workhouse, say tho ChlcAfo For 300 in cash he at one time bought several thousand acres of land near the Limropo river, iuclcdiae; now tenacious ly claimed by the richest gold-mining companies Li th" world. The state of Texas is offering the disappointed Oklahoma boomers as good land as they can find in Oklahoma at $1 00 an acre with the privilege of paying for it in 17 years. It seems to us that this beats the 1.25 an acre proposition in Oklahoma. But then there is no Dennis Flynn in Texas to sa il in an get the state to remit the payment; 10 tne settlers, rrere is no show for a free homes campaign in the Lone Star state, and that takes away the charm.
