George Magrath Panciera who succeerfed Frank Barnikow as head coach of football anti basketball in 1947 was relieved of coaching duties at his own request The high school principal announced fhe coach's resignation in a letter to the sports editor of The Record In (he letter Principal Magrath said Panciera had ritten him In October asking that i be relieved of my present assignment In football whenever most appropriate and cenvenl- ent for all The coach finished out the season at the request of Principal Magrath and succeeded in bringing about a steady improvemen! in the team Principal letter says is to Mr credit IlftRI uCOTfl that he carried on in his coaching UUvlU The team improved steadily as the season progressed and the Danbury game was in every sense a moral victory I am personally proud of way in which Mr Panciera conducted himself both on and of the field His personality and character are of the type which we desire our coaches to possess of today (Nov 82) I am relieving him as head football coach and his successor will named when all coaching duties tor next year are announced late this spring This resignation will not eliminate him from the athletic picture With his background and experience we shall continue to use him in our overall athletic Panciera was relieved of his duties as coach of basketball last spring when Principal Magrath announced
