That's gratitude for 3ou, for past patronage and support! TnE little says the County Attorney opposed the reference of the Monger case' to a Referee, but gives no reason for his opposition. When the bottom drop out of that political tub, what will become of the little? Echo answers, W-h-a-t-? The Rasure House, in this ciiy, is offered for sale. This is one of the best hotels in western Kansas, and is having a splendid run of custom. Situated near the depot, it commands a large transient patronage, Mr. Rasure will give the purchaser a bar- gam I i ments in newspapers with "patent" insidef or outsides, does not comply wit! the law, and that the Courts have bo decided.

We have been fonie pains to look up this question, and have consulted with eminent lawyers in the State in relation thereto, and find but one opii ion, namely: That tin) publication of all notices, or proceedings, required by law to be published, in a newt paper which has one side printed air ay from the place of its issue and publication, is legal, and in full omplia ice with the law. Mr. A. N. Kello of Chicago, pab-lisher of sevt il hundred ditlerent newspaper "ot.tsides" and in answer to an inquiry frm us, writes as follows: Chicago, Nov.

19, 18fi5. Messrs. Ddxcan tfc Moore: Dear Sirs Yours of 15. li is at hand. one, so far as I know, has ever had tli; hardi'tiood to question in Court lie legality 'u notice printed on the home j-idu of one of our papers Nearly every paper we print lor contains legal notices which are never quest iom d.

The Yost Ofllce Department lecognle them, under Sec. 7 of Act of Congress ounc23, J8J4, which hays "That newspaper, one cpy to ea actual Kubfcribcr routing in the county where ths hainu printed, in whole or i.v part, and published, bailgo free thro igh the mail-." 1 hough i cannot cite to any ueji-i of the civil courts in iheir favor, 1 know thatnon ii a keen made AGAiNsr tiiem. Whenever decision niatle Mguint us, if one sht.uid ever be hich hoiiy improbable you ill see a fclunding notice in large type in every all-homc-printcd paper. But I have not the remotest tear ol'cuch a thing. These have printed cre lor over ten years; and their legal prestige is now undisputed.

Kesueei fully, A. N. KELLOGG. In Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa, the all' home-printed and patent 'inside' and 'oat-side' papers are published side by side la the same localities, and both contain legal notices. Both the Marion County papers are "patent," and publish legal advertisements.

In Cottonwood Falls, the Leader is 'patent' and the Courant 'home; but a-many legal notices arc published in the Leader as in the Cjurant. And so on AD infinitum. The cry that the "all-home printed" papers have made against the "patents," is simply to subserve personal ends. As a rule, the matter furnished by the "patents" is not only greater in quantity; but superior in quality to one-half of the all home printed papers. The only difference is, that the former has one-half hi paper scissored for him away; the latter scissors for his whole sheet at home, except a column or two of uninteresting locals and low personalities.

We are in receipt of the prospectus of the Topeka Commonwealth for 1870. Th Commonwealth is the principal paper at the capital, is thoroughly Republican, "believing that the preservation of the Republican orginization, and the maintenance of Republican principles, is necessary to beat back the hosts of Bourbon ism on one hand and of Agrarian fanaticism on the other. The Commoawe ilt'i is in favor of honest money, nnd will "oppose any policy which looks to the restoration of that unmitigated curse, the wild cat banking system, and which will tend to keep up in this country two kinds of money, a superior and an in- ferior currency. It will labor in behalf of that system of financial management which will make the poor man's dollar worth just one hundred cents in gold." Local news and Legi-lative reports will be a prominent feature of the Commonwealth this winter. The syllabi of the Supreme Court are pub lished by authority in the Commonwealth.

The location of the paper enables it togiva at the earliest moment all official intelli- gence. The Weekly Commonwealth is a forty column paper, with few advertise merit Weekly, $3 a year; Daily, $10.00 a year. Prof. Boyi.es, of Salina, advertised that he would deliver a lecture on Chemistry, at the School House, on Thursday night last, and would illustrate the wonders and beauties of the science by brilliant experiments; both lecture and experiments failed by reason of the Professor taking an over-dose of stimulants. The boys thought the Professor a "jokist" of the genuine Bourbon sort.

A coltle of men were arrested a few days ago, in the western portion of the county, for stealing a cow; were brought to Newton, tried before 'Squire Becker, and held in 200. Constable Shaeffer took charge of them; and night having overtaken them at Burton, while in search of bail, Charley camped in the station house with his prisoners. During the night, the birds raised the window and escaped. Charley has faith that the birds will return with other birds, in the spring. By comparing the vote of Reno county with that of ilarvej', sa3's the Hutchinson News, it will be seen that we "lap over" them nearly three hundred votes.

And by comparing the number of Congressional Townships in Reno wiih the number in Harvey, it will be seen that Reno "laps over" Harvey just twenty. Harvey, comprising fifteen townships, cast 863 votes. Reno, comprising thirty-live townships, cist about 1100. Reno, to be equal in population to IIarvc'3 should have polled 2000, according to territory. She is not half as large as Reno or McPherson, and is only a little below either of them in population. She has more inhabitants than eith'r Barton, Chase, Davis, Edwards, Ellis, Ellsworth, Ford, Lincoln, i Morris, Norton, Osborne, Ottawa, Pawnee, I xxMu.
