He has been chief burner at the Humboldt brick plant from Its start, and un derstands the business thoroughly.

now has 235 phones on the city ex change and 13 on the Logan town ship line, making 243 in all. Mr. Helm has 50 more phones to put up as soon ai be can get the phones. Harry Kelley came down from Le- Roy this week to assist in making some difficult changes In the wires. The fifty new phone wires will be put in a cable which will lessen the wire congestion near the central office.

Elizabeth Rhoades died Thurs day at her home in Salem township. The deceased was the mother of George S. and J.

C. Rhoades, and was an estimable lady. We have heard no particulars of her death. Owing to continued illness Miss Hattie O'Brien has resigned her po sition as teacher in the public school of this city. The board has em ployed Miss Ethel Fricker as sub stitute teacher.

The Humboldt and Burlington bowling teams had a three game contest at Hall Trezler's alleys Wednesday night. The Humboldt team won all three games by 850 pins. George Work made the big gest score, 220 pins in ten frames. A telegram was received here Thursday from Kansas City stating that Mi -re Myrtle Phillips had died in that city. The body was brought down to Humboldt Friday for burial.

We have heard no particu lars of her death. i The lecture course entertain ment at the opera house Saturday night was well attended and the program was pleasing to the audi ence. The musical novelties were skillfully handled by the concert company. N. Owens, of Maccmh, ar rived Thursday morning and will remain here two weeks.

J. F. Flynn came home from the Kansas City hospital Friday of last week, accompanied by bis wife, who went up to assist him on the way home. The Doctor Is recovering rapidly from the operation and thinks he will soon be well again, and the prospects are that his health will be better than for years. His frieuda will be glad to hear this good news.

The wife of Rudolph Kamping died Tuesday evening, at her home nine miles southeast of Humboldt. Cause of; death was typhoid fever and pneumonia. She leaves a bus band, children, other relatives and many friends to mourn her death. The $30,000 power house will be located at Hamboldt, and cars are expected to be running between the two towns by July.

The wore wind and dust storm of the season stuck this section about 7:30 Wednesday evening. It was terrific and came from tbenorth west and was very cold.

The dust was In blinding clouds and caused people to seek shelter in a hurry. It is estimated that forty or fifty derricks were blown down and wrecked in this field.
