fast talking comedy has a new medium in now showing at the Palace theatre wherein he plays the part of a debonnaire shyster lawyer an ambulance chasing one who cleverly fakes accidents and law suits dodges the traps of the Bar association and incidentally gives the audience an amastog inside knowledge of the legal rackets of the day Madge Evans scores as a pretty detective who goes out to get Tracy and instead falls in love with him and Frank Morgan and Charles Butterworth have comical parts One of the fastest moving and thrilling outdoor western features that has been shown on the Palace -screen in many a month is In the added feature for today and stars John Wayne and Henry Walthall not forgetting Duke the marvel horse A rodeo with none of exciting tails missing a stage coach race fast shooting and knife throwing and plenty of comedy are the elements of this fine storyy which ran serially to the Saturay Evening Post A Mickey Mouse a and the news complete a good show for every member of the Ady SYLVIA SIDNEY FEATURE AT PALACE SUNDAY Bylvla Sidney plays the role of a woman whose charms for men brings her more tragedy than happiness to the screen Version of Theodore Dreiser's famous novel which is on display Sunday and Monday at the Palace theatre Donald Cook Mary Astor Warner and Edward Arnold are featured The film follows the plot of the Dreiser novel faithfully Jennie Gerhardt is a woman who hardly realizes the effect of her beauty upon men She yields to an elderly Senator In love with her because of her gratitude for the assistance he gives her poverty-stricken family But he ia killed in an accident before they can be married and their child ia bom Starting her life anew she is swept off her feet by the brother of her wealthy employer and for years they enjoy their happiness until he learns of her child HU reaction is startling and Us effect on Jennie tragic ia the second film In which Miss Sidney has played a DreUer haroine She was starred in American the only other novel from his pen to reach the screen The movies lay bare another racket to Had To Say a First National production which comes to the Mace theatre as the added feature Sunday and Monday This picture with its all-star cast headed by Loretta Young Lyle Talbot Regis Toomey and Winnie Lightner reveals the adventures of "customers' which is always a pretty though lightly principled lure used by certain firms of big business to attract orders from out-of town Adv TWO BIG FEATURES OPEN SUN AT CAPITOL thereof Is life and narrow is the comer of the earth wherein he says Somerset Maughan in his novel Narrow Warner picture of the same title which opens Sunday at the Capitol Is fashioned from this theme It is a strange tale full of the color of strange places and strange and yet at bottom as are all the characters of a Somerset Maugham story these people are vibrant with the same life we all live They act and move and feel Just as we do The story opens in Sidney Australia with a murder aboard an old ketch with an outlaw skipper-bound for nowhere told only to keep moving and not to get too near to a habitation where white men might be It winds up in a colorful island of the Malay Archipelago among as strange an assortment of human beings as it would be possible to meet including a retired sea captain wealthy from heaven knows what deviltries on the seven seas his son-in-law and granddaughter an innocent girl of primitive passion and a Dutch trader The picture is a triumph in exciting and thrilling plot in unique glamorous and picturesque settings The strange characters are delineated with unusual fidelity and strength by the members of an all-star cast Douglas Fairbanks Jr has never been better than he is to the escaping young Australian wanted for the murder of hia husband Dudley Digges as Dr Saunders an opium-smoking outcast is a revelation: Reginald Owen William Mong and Ralph Bellamy are all better than this reviewer ever remembers having seen them before The surprise of the picture however is the work of youthful Patricia Ellis to the role of the girl Louise A comparative newcomer to the screen her acting is flawless Her talent beauty and charm should take her far to screen work Alfred Green Who directed from a screen play by Robert Pres-neil has done a splendid Job for he keeps the story going at a never-lagging pace No one who cares for strange romances in picturesque settings or for mad and thrilling adventure should miss "The Narrow The second feature is an exceptionally high class thrilling epic of the West The "Vanishing written by Zane Orey Paramount pictures have included in the cast John Mark Brown Evalyn Knapp Zaun Pitts and Raymond Adv BUZZ WILD WEST SHOW WITH CIRCUS JULY 20 Coming Wild Horse Barton FLIERS STATUS IS EXPLAINED BY OFFICIAL Darius and Girenas Had No Permission From Europeans Washington July 15 (AP) Officials of the aeronautics branch of the Commerce department today said that Captain Stephen Darius and Stanley Thomas Girenas who left New York early today on a flight to Lithuania had no permission to fly over or to land in any country on route An official when notified of the take-off of the plane Llthuanlca said: aviators came here about two months ago to arrange for the necessary permission for the flight This included approval of their qualifications and ability to undertake such a flight and the approval of their equipment far as their equipment was concerned it was satisfavtory The branch also approved the competency of th fliers when they sought permission to fly over Iceland Ireland England Denmark Germany and other countries that might be on their route they wanted the Commerce department to pay the expense of cablegrams This Involved about $100 and the department held they should pay it They did not want to do this and sought permission by mail which requires at least 60 days phoned here- two days ago and were advised that permission to land in the countries on their route had not been granted They indl-cited they had received through some friends here and to Lithuania permission to land to that country they make the flight to Lithuania successfully they probably will be alright But if they land to some other country without having permission to fly over it it will be cm-barassing to the United States and to them is not quite right however to say they took off in direct defiance of the department in view of the approval of their qualifications and equipment but if they land in a country where they have no permission they will be subject to a SCHOOL JANITORS NAME DELEGATES FOR STATE MEET Michael Ktolry William Parker and John Heffeman were elected to represent the Meriden group at the
