by 8 Poll In renovating theater formerly known an Community playhouse and now known aa Poll'a Palace haa converted that place of amusement Into one of the handsomest theater In New England The premier performance of thta remodeled playhouse will be thla evening aSd the people of Meriden are anxiously waiting to see the big changes made by the new owner All the original distinctive vantages of the old Community playhouse as designed by Architect Arland Johnson of New York havd been retained but a corps of expert workmen haa been engaged for the last four months In painting and decorating and upholstering the seats and Installing new lights ao that now It la much more beautiful than ever The seat over 1700 In number are all arranged on one floor and the high domed calling gets entirely away from the feeling of reetrlctlon one feels In lttlng under balconies A Herculean Task The renovating of the theater In accordance with the plans of Mr Poll has been a heruculean task but many men were employed and the work was rushed as fast as was consistent with good workmanship Those who have been permitted to look at the new interior are delighted with It and say it will become known as a beauty spot which will make Meriden famous In surrounding cities The house is practically a new one as It was built In 1921 but when originally completed there waa no lavish expenditure on In terlor decorations The decorations which were originally made were during the period of construction and the plastering staging was up the walls- were painted -The removal of these staging completely filled the building with dust so that the paint was tarnished to begin with and during the three years of Its operation came to look old and faded Four Work When Mr Poll bought the theater last March he realized that many Improvements would be nec aaary and he started In upon hf program of rehabilitation and embellishment which la just now completed The rearrangement of the lobby Is a great feature and makes for convenience of patrons in entering or leaving tho theater It la assured that there will be a large atendanee this evening and in the succeeding days for the people of Meriden have been anxiously awaiting chance to see the remodeled theater as well as the high class program which 1 to be presented The first performance will begin thta evening at 8:16 the door being opened at 7:80 I) flea use of the lateness In starting tonight there will be but one performance but after today there will be three performances dally and two Sunday evenings Description of Kntrance In describing the remodeled theater the reporter started with the approach to the theater A most attractive marquee has been con tructed and the words ''Polls tn electric lights standing out on It can be eeen from hundreds of yards up or down the Street There are 2224 electric lights In the Illumination and those will Illumine that portion or the atreet The lights are varicolored and the electrical effect very attractive Over the outer entrance is a large algn arranged to display the title of the piece be log played 'within Tho letters are In royal blue with gold edges At night these letters will stand out as though they were suspended In the air the lighting being so fixed that the frame-work will be in Visible Thta sign la an Imitation of the noth --one advertising "The Ten suspended between 48rd and playhouse have been ro placed by net? copper doors with brass trimmings and handles They are much more convenient In design and after passing through them one finds the appearance of the outer lobby entirely changed The old ticket booth has been re-moved and the entrance ballway now has ths appearance of a spa clous room Richly wrought hand work with polychrome trimmings decorate the entrance There large display frames are placed on each side of the outer lobby the background being old rose velour drapery The draperies are ornamented with the Initial which Is Mr emblem These display frames are Illuminated by hidden lights and persent a very attractive appear mice Attractive Mirrors In addition to these display ernes there are four mirrors on ch side of the outer lobby Bus kets of
