"Wanted, the Earth," at Compton Opera House, Friday evening. o- The Presbyterian ladies society will meet next Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Spees. The ladies of the Christian Sewing Society will meet next Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. Wheeler.

The ladies of the Christian church will give a general supper including oysters on election night, November 6th. The Ieachman's have opened out again, this time in the Strom building, where they are picking up lots of trade. Mr. Laybourn has bought the Scott Price place sn Second street. I5y the way, Mrs.

Price has joined her husband in Lawrence. A very pleasant tea partv was enjoyed by a number of ladies and gentlemen at the handsome and hospitable home of Mr. and Mrs. Dudley. Tuesday evening.

The gloomy weather we have been having this week is probably the ragged edge of the snow storm they have been having in New York, Pennsylvania and other States. The next teachers examination will be held in the valley school building, Marion, on Saturday, Oct. 2G, commencing nine o'clock a. m. John Dillon, who appears in the Ma.

rion opera house (Friday) to-night has a world-wide reputation as an actor, and the wonder is, what he is doing in Kansas towns. A union meeting of the Y. M. C. A.

and Y. W. C. A. will be held at the Baptist church on Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock.

M. O. Billings will lead. Everybody is invited. V.

It, U. No. 103 fourth anniveisary will be held Saturday evening, the 26th. All former members especially the charter members are cordially invited I to be present. By order of President.

1 A magnificent view of Marion and surrounding country can be obtained from the new school house tower. It is simply a grand spectacle, and if you have never been up there you should pick some good, clear day and go. The Presbyterian ladies will serve an oyster supper at the residence of Mr. W. II.

Dudley, next Tuesday evening, to which everybody is invited. It is a good place to go anytime, and on this occasion especially so. I3e there. The Record hesitates to advise farmers about matters which they probably know more than its editor, but if we were a farmer we would wear mighty old clothes and eat awful poor grub before we weuld sell any corn at twelve or fifteen cents per bushel. Pollock Post, No.

42, G. A. R. are respectfully invited to bring their wives and daughters to the Post room Saturday evening to help the W. R.

C. celebrate their fourth anniversary. Refreshments served. By order Pres. Sarah E.

The meanest varmint iu Kansas, entered poor, sick Dick Malone's home through a window" last Friday night and stole his best coat and his little girl's breast pin.

If the rascal is caught he should be whipped half to death. No other punishment would meet his case. Our friend Coleman, of Lost Springs, while illustrating a Lost Springs Democrats oratory in Henry Siebert's store, last Saturday, lifted his right hand so suddenly and so high as to shatter a chandelier hanging above him. It cost him a snug little sum but he gets value received in laughing about it. A telegram was received in Marion last Saturday announcing the death of Prof.

Owens in California, husband of a Marion girl, nee Miss Matie Hoops, lie died suddenly, leaving a wife and child among strangers. It is a sad case, and the bereaved wife who is well known here, will hve many sympathisers iu Marion. The Oskaloosa, Iowa, Herald, of Sept. 24th: "Wanted, the Earth," John Dillon was always the most successful comedian on the Western stage, and last evening he proved it very conclusively that he was yet a whole brass band with a big yellow dog under the wagon. From the raising of the curtain to the last drop thereof, it was one continuous round ot laughter Dillon proving himself the same old master Riirth-provoker.

The support was excellent, and the large audience went home feeling amply repaid by the pleasure afforded. It was immense. At Compton Opera evening. Oct. 25.

Trustee. The Record has heietofore failed to note the recent removal of Mr. J. C. Watson and family from Newton to Marion.

Mr. Watson is a bridge contractor and builder, and has also had the contract for the acadamiing of Main street, Marion. Having tried the town and liked it, he locates here permanently. That proves he is a sensible man. Postmaster Lewis keeps putting on city airs in his establishment.

His latest advance is an hour stamp, which marks the exact time of mailing and receiving matter. Fred is making a mighty fine Postmaster, lie takes pride in the establishment and ia the business, and is furnishing the city a postoffice which is a credit to Marion and to hm. Mr. J. F.

Knapp, the popular grocer -man, is preparing to "spread." He has taken a new partner, Mr. Geo. D. Scott, of Dakota, with whom he was formerly in business in Michigan, and the new firm will soon occupy the stone building best known as the Wand building, where they will have more room, and where they can carry a larger stock. Mr.

Knapp has done a fine business and made a host of friends since he has been in Marion, and his new partner comes highly recommended. Success to the new firm in their new quarters. Times can't le very hard, or Marion county girls are getting awful proud, or they don't care muca for an education, or something of that sort. Marion possesses splendid school facilities, and the Record has been offering in b-'half of some excellent families a chance for young ladies to earn their board while attending school, but only one or tw have applied for the places. Yet some of the best women in the world, yes, some of the best in this town, obtained their schooling in this way, and they are not ashamed of it, either.

They are proud of it. Mr. and Mrs. S. 11.

Grimes gave a snail party Monday nig at, in honor of their daughter Edna's seventeenth birthday. The party was intended as a surprise to Edna and Mrs. Grimes invited those of Edna's friends whose names she knew, perhaps leaving out some whom she would have wished to ask had she known them. The young people passed a pleasant evening. Edna was the happy recipient of a number of beautiful presents, nottably, a handsome gold ring from her aunt.

Mrs. M. E. McCleary, of Elkhart, Indiana, who is visiting here now. Among other presents we noted, was a silk muffler from Lulu rimes, a pretty book from Carrie and Will Baxter, an elegant portmantau from Alio? and Charlie Wheeler and a handsome perfume ca.e and bottle from Gtorge Tienner.

Many happy returns of I he day, Edna, was the wish of her frier ds. i Pimples, blotches, scaly skin, ugly spots, sores and ulcers, abscesses and tumors, unhealthy discharges, such as catarrh, eczema, ringworm, and other forms of skin diseases, are symptoms of blood impurity. Take Dr. J. H.

Dear Sii: I am happy to report to you that my family have made a happy recovery. I will confess to you that I had my doubts about the propriety of depending so wholly on the Mountain Sage Fever Cure in the treatment of pneumonia. It was a new departure for me but the result has vindicated the assertion that you made that its action was equally beneficial in all forms of fever. We had given up all hopes of the children's recovery and fully believe under the blessing of God, it was the means of saving their lives. J.
