was announced today at the first meeting of its board of directors Twenty-three area business civic and education leaders have agreed to serve on the board for the corporation known as Community Service Broadcasting of Mid-America Inc Edward Matheny jr a lawyer and spokesman for the new hoard said the corporation hopes to take over control and management of channel 19 which has been operated since 1961 by the Kansas City school district as KCSD-TV The corporation also will consider expanding into other areas of non -commercial television and broadoanting in the metro politan area Matheny said Matheny said he was extremely pleased with the willingness of area leaders to serve on the board never been identified with anything where people were as willing to Matheny said it takes a lot of arm-twisting The affirmative response from very busy people with a lot of other commitments shows how important they feel public television is to this Matheny said one of the first challenges the corporation will face is improving the power of the signal for channel 19 in order to improve the quality and range of reception throughout the metropolitan area He said the board also must consider the possibility (converting the voted to co-operate with the formation of the non-profit corporation The board voted to consider proposals from the corporation to take over the license financing and operation of channel 19 and to consider purchasing instructional television for in-school use from the corporation rather than providing its own Channel 19 currently broadcasts taped lessons during
