By reason of his vigorous constitution and his temperate mode of lite he had attained the advanced joint of eighty fiveyearson the dial of time. He was born in the State of New Jersey, but has been a citizen of this place for, at least a half century. He was a man of unbending integrity and of an inflexible firmness of character.

He was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, discharging his christian duties in an unostentatious mantt yet ever found in his place in the house of God, when divine services were in progress. He was twice married, aud reared nine sons, most of whom have been remarkably successful in life. Most of his sons sought homes in distant States one of them, Jonathan Osborn, named after him, is a distinguished lawyer of Louisana, and served several years there, in the capacity of judge. His youngest son the Rev. Isaac Osborn, is a Presbyterian minister.

Mr. DanU.1 S. Osborn is the only one of his sons resuling here. Mr. Job Osborn, who formerly resided here, is now doing business in Raleigh, and Dr.

A. F. Osborn, who lived here during and since the war, is now residing in tne State of Virginia. The services over the remains of the venerable deceased, were performed at the Pres byterian church, by the pastor, the Rev. D.

E. Jordan. Aittr the impressive funeral sermon, the Rev. Lewis K. Willie addressed a few appropriate remarks to the large crowd in attendance on the mournful occasion.
